Titans star Jayden Campbell puts contract talks on hold amid Des Hasler uncertainty
Gold Coast star Jayden Campbell could become one of the NRL’s most in-demand free agents, after putting Titans contract talks on hold amid uncertainty over the future of coach Des Hasler.

Gold Coast halfback Jayden Campbell is set to become one of the NRL’s hottest free agents after pausing contract talks as the Titans dither over the future of coach Des Hasler.
Campbell is less than three months away from becoming a potential $1 million-a-season recruitment target for rival clubs for 2027 and beyond.
The Titans are in a salary cap mess attempting to rebalance their roster which is heavy in the forwards and light in key spine positions.
Campbell, 25, has hit a purple patch of form in recent weeks as he continues his transition from fullback to the No. 7 jersey.
Instinctive like his father, Dally M legend Preston Campbell, and with tremendous athletic ability, Jayden is quickly becoming an NRL sensation.
The Titans are keen to lock him up on the Gold Coast beyond the end of 2026, but Campbell is seeking clarity around the club’s plans as the axe hovers over Hasler.

Campbell said he hoped the Titans would provide some certainty and direction heading into Sunday’s ‘Spoon Bowl’ showdown with South Sydney.
“There’s a lot of uncertainty at the moment,” Campbell said.
“Des, with the person he is, he comes in and he’s so passionate, he just wants the best for us.
“I love him as a coach. I love how passionate he is. I like how he cares about the players.
“There is uncertainty and I’m not too sure what’s happening, but if he’s the coach here, I’m still going to play as hard as I can for him.”
The Titans have invested heavily in forwards like captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, David Fifita and Moeaki Fotuaika – who chew up a combined $3 million of the salary cap each year.
They have splashed big cash retaining fullbacks Keano Kini and AJ Brimson until the end of 2030 on close to a combined $2 million-a-season.
The club will likely have to wait until 2027 to find serious cash to spend given $1 million-a-season forward Fifita is off-contract then along with Beau Fermor, Alofiana Khan-Pereira, Phil Sami, Brian Kelly, Carter Gordon, Jaimin Jolliffe and Sam Verrills.
Fa’asuamaleaui is also a free agent at the end of 2026 and expected to field significant interest from expansion club Perth Bears.

Campbell, who will become a free agent on November 1, said he was trying to focus on the present but felt he owed the Titans for giving him a crack at the NRL in 2021.
“I’ve thought about that (future) but at the same time I just want to play good football here,” he said.
“I’ve really enjoyed the last month of football. (My future) hasn’t really crossed my mind too much.
“I’d love to stay here at the coast. I just want to keep putting in a good performance while I’m here and whatever happens, happens.

I’ve learned so much in regards to playing the game, but also looking after my body and the physical side of it.
“When I came into the NRL I was about 72kg, now I’m 83kg.
“There’s a lot for me to learn, I’m never happy with where I’m at. I just want to be the best player I can be.”

Sea Eagles board offer Anthony Seibold ‘full support’, Brad Arthur enjoying winning feeling in UK
Embattled Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold is under ‘no immediate pressure’ despite background drama at the club, while former Eels mentor Brad Arthur has opened up on his UK plans

.Manly chair and majority owner Scott Penn has revealed that the club emerged from a board meeting this week with their full support behind coach Anthony Seibold as he battles to keep the Sea Eagles in finals contention amid a mounting injury toll.
Seibold bristled on Thursday when asked about his future, dismissing suggestions that he was under pressure to keep some members of the playing group on side.
Penn insisted that Seibold, who has two years to run on his deal, still had his backing and that external forces were lobbing “grenades’ at the club and its coach.
“We’re all aligned,” Penn said. “We know what we need to do. We have lost a lot of forwards during the year. We have lost our starting front row and at various times most of the back row.

NRL COACH RACE TAKES TURN AS ARTHUR MAKES CALL ON FUTURE
- Peter Badel
The NRL coaching merry-go-round has taken an intriguing turn with former Parramatta mentor Brad Arthur set to remain in the English Super League.
This masthead understands Arthur is poised to ink a multi-year extension with Leeds Rhinos in a move that will have ramifications for a raft of coaching contenders eyeing off a top job in the NRL.
Arthur will make a definitive call on Monday after months of negotiations with Rhinos bosses, but the former Eels grand-final coach is leaning towards staying at Leeds.
The 51-year-old is considered a frontrunner for the Titans post if Gold Coast management opts to sack besieged coach Des Hasler, who faces a wooden-spoon battle against Souths on Sunday.
The Titans have been inundated with expressions of interest but insist they have made no official call on Hasler, who is contracted until the end of 2026.
English media have been speculating on Arthur’s future for months and Leeds hierarchy are keen to extend his stay in the UK, with the veteran coach having steered the Rhinos into the top four.
Leeds chiefs are sweating on an answer and it’s understood Arthur will advise the club he is prepared to stay on for another two or three seasons.
Arthur has been at the epicentre of fierce coaching speculation with several names, including Willie Peters, Josh Hannay, Jason Demetriou, Adrian Lam, and Ben and Shane Walker, having been linked with various NRL jobs.
Arthur, Peters and the Walker brothers have been linked with the Titans and Newcastle, Hannay is an option if Todd Payten is sacked at the Cowboys, while Lam and Demetriou have been mentioned as possible coaches for the PNG team in 2028.

Arthur was initially slated as the preferred candidate for the Perth job, but the ARL Commission ultimately opted for NRL Immortal Mal Meninga, who will take charge of the Bears in 2027.
The ARLC, which owns the Perth licence, interviewed Arthur and offered him an assistant’s role with a view to eventually taking over from Meninga, but he knocked back that proposition.
It is believed Arthur will have clauses inserted into his new Leeds deal giving him the flexibility to cut ties with the club immediately if an NRL opportunity comes up.
The Rhinos will be amenable to that request, accepting Arthur has a desire to return to NRL coaching and be closer to his family in Australia.
Arthur told English media after Leeds’ 22-14 defeat of third-placed Leigh Leopards that he is relishing his stint with the Rhinos, who are on the brink of the Super League playoffs for the first time in three years.

North Queensland Cowboys coach Todd Payten is under pressure to keep his job after a disappointing 2025 season with a talented roster.
“I love winning and I’ve really enjoyed my time here, I love it,” he said.
“The club can’t do any more than what they’ve done for me, I’m so grateful.
“The players can’t do any more than what they’ve done for me, it’s purely just a decision based around my family.
“But I’m in a good space to be able to make that decision now.
“Me and ‘Bleasey’ (Leeds sporting director Ian Blease) had a good conversation the other day.
“We talked about a multi-year deal with a few options in the club’s way and a couple of things for me.
“There’s nothing I need to go back and forth on, the deal is what it is, I need to have that conversation with my kids and make sure everyone is comfortable — I’ll make a decision on Monday.
“The club have been great and they’ve been patient with me the whole way through, but it’s got to the point where a decision needs to be made.”

Seibs would have thrown up this morning reading he has the full support of the board

So Bailey a no show at training today , granted a break from training, wish I could have a day off every time I didn't get what I wanted at work
He’s learnt everything he knows from Lane and Matto. What a self entitled bunch of soft cocks Bea Arthur had at this club. No wonder why JR took an axe to the roster.

Yep it seems we had a self entitled playing group that BA let fester and enabled them to think it was all about themselves as individuals and not team based.

Like honestly how do you reckon Ryles would have handled Matto walking into him a day after the GF.

I am copping a 3 match ban instead of a 4k fine.

I reckon Ryles would have said pay the fine or pack your bags.

And JR allows this soft behaviour. Just a fact.
Genuine question

What soft behaviour do you think Ryles has allowed.

Its been more trying to clean up a mess and lift the standards in the joint.

Matto pulls out of the teamsheet on game day twice in the first 3 rounds. Then again in round 13 against the Dogs.

What's he supposed to do just welcome him back into the team.

Lane got dropped after Darwin then pulls the i am burnt out & need a break card.

That's on the club MON and Sarantinos to sort out the mess with Lane they created. And figure out a way to get him off the books.

Bailey has had a massive sook so i doubt he will be picked ever again.

Joffa got dropped signed with the UK side within a week.

As far as I am aware with Brendan Hands there was no issue with his attitude we just have better options then him.

And JR allows this soft behaviour. Just a fact. Simmo should be playing reggies this weekend. He is getting hundreds of thousands to play not take sook leave.
You really think he wants some entitled sook playing over someone who wants the opportunity and will have a crack?

Bailey has behaved like a bitch. Doesn’t deserve to pull on the colours again.

Let a player who is being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to play take sook leave instead of playing where he is picked. Many players in reserve who think they should be in firsts. He got paid by the club to rehab his ACL.
Is this the new protocol to let every player unhappy about being dropped to reggies take sook leave? You tell them to STFU and do the job they are being paid to do. Its the soft option. Do your job like a man.
