Ryles has dealt with the Lomax thing superbly letting him go and keeping on Superman Simmonsen.

I listened to the Chad Townsend interview of Ghreed Mahoney the other day and it really struck home how much of an idiot coach Brad was the way they both praised him as a player's coach.

Player's Coach is basically say goodbye to a premiership.

Don't get me wrong, he was just what we needed back in the bad times but we've since moved beyond that.

Our edges were getting stripped for 11yrs and no answer. Ryles has tightened the D up thats for sure.
A. It’s only been one year, and that also goes in relation to next point.
B. Last season we conceded 578 points. In 2023 we conceded 574, in 2022 we conceded 489, in 2021 it was 457, 2020 (4 less games it was 288. Even going back to the shithouse 2018, we conceded 550.

I don’t want to sound like BApoulogist, and obviously I left out 2024 (716 points and BA rightly sacked for it) but let’s not convince ourselves Ryles has magically made us a defensive juggernaut.

Yep, our best season under Ryles doesn’t come close to our best season under Arthur’s. Not in attack or defence. Our first season under Ryles compares favorably with Arthur's first season but in 2014 we had just come off two straight wooden spoons (11 wins in two years). In our two seasons before this one we won 19 games.

We shouldn't compare BAs best ever squads that took like 8yrs to build against Ryles operating approx 4mill under cap and a bunch of BA duds or guys wanting out like JOE 0, LaneRCG,Guth,Matto,Dunster etc.....
Plus our defense improved under Ryles as the season went on. It just got better and better.
Silly comparrison

And 2014 squad was a top 8 squad. The cap was cleared and Ricky had signed a bunch of gun players whilst Semi and Jnr exploded onto the scene with Manu and KE
. 2025 was a full rebuild and we even lost teen prodigy Booods ffs

Eels open training session at Fairfield markets this Saturday. Be there to support the team. 29 November.

Also the markets will.be open, plenty of food outlets burgers ect.

Last year's one was great.. couldn't believe the intensity of the training and some of the big hits towards the end.

2015 - 573 points conceded
2016 - 324 points conceded!

You are the one being silly.
I agree there were specific improvements last season. But we also had tries scored under the posts by props brushing off our defence and we still got out stripped on edges.

If we’re being honest, BAs biggest shortfall was his inability to adapt. Yet we want to compare Ryles after one season? The only thing he’s had to adapt to is disruptors being a rule introduced and forgotten in same season.

It was right move to make but Ryles still has to prove himself

We added nine new players. No chance we were anything like $4M under the cap. The salary cap rules don't allow it.

With Hayne and Mannah as captains. There is no comparison. The 2025 leaders are far superior. Arthur's inherited Hayne/Mannah and got rid of both after 2018.

2025 we got a bunch of new players as well:

Iongi
JAC
Lomax
Williams
Walker
Kautoga
TDS
Papalii
Samrani

Here's the 'quality' that came into the 2014 squad:

Norman
Peats
Mossop
Ma'u
Hopoate
Edwards (actually played one game in 2013)
De Gois

Apart from Ma'u and IDG, it was a crowd of f**king peanuts. And you blame the coach for them shitting the bed at season's end?

That's our points conceded only since we started playing for points, so it was only from round ten, which was 15 games.

For the first 9 games, with our illegal TPA squad, we conceded 13.2 point per game. For the remaining 15 games, without a bunch of quality players, we conceded 21.6. Small samples, but it does support the importance of good players over coaching. We see this in the performance of Cleary (Wests then Penrith), Maguire (Souths then Wests then Brisbane) and Stuart (Easts then Parra).

As for our 'illegally assembled team', was it better than every other club's squad? Or was it just equal to the clubs that manage to keep a great squad together year after year? Why is it illegal for Parra to have such a squad and not illegal for Brisbane, Melbourne, Penrith and Easts? The difference is likely just that we have backstabbers throughout our club. So we can't bypass the salary cap rules without whistleblowers throwing us under the bus for their own benefit.

HAYNE retuning to peak after years of injuries, Jnr Paulo and Semi radradra exploding onto the scene. SO TWO of the best ever players in the history of the game and still finished 11th huge Failure
Couldn't even beat Lnights or Raiders who where bottom of table to make finals.

Norman,Hoppa,Peats all were close to origin level. I think Hoppa and Peats may of even played Origin. Hardly nuffies.

Ryles added new players with approx 675 games NRL experience. 4 with over 100 games (Williams, JAC, Lomax and Walker)

BA had new players with approx 313 games experience. Only 1 with 100 plus games (De gois with 174 - over half of the 313 games)

Some talented players but zero onfield leadership. Jarryd Hayne won three wooden spoons under three different coaches. Talent is only part of the puzzle, and the more you spend on your best players the less you have available to spend on the rest. This is why we finished top four with Gutherson and Sivo, while missing the eight with Hayne and Radradra. Nothing to do with the coach.

Not a bad backline. Maybe one of our best I can remember

Hayne
Semi
Tonga
Hopoate
K.Sio, Morgan,
Backs win games now do they? Face it mate, that squad was full of duds. You're trying to blame the coach but he proved he could coach after getting rid of those bums. Meanwhile the only one to play in a grand final after that season was Paulo.
