Rumours and Stuff

I doubt he be a super star. Maybe 6-10th best fullback would be a decent result. I just cant see his defense ever being Gutherson like. But he is a genuine NRL player. I don't think he's miles infront of Joash either who is capable.
I wonder what we paid Iongi.

Im also suprised people think he is as good as peak Gutherson. He would save 2 Try's every game and was a leader. His ball playing was elite, could goal kick. Iongi just has a bette rrun game but thats it
. One of our best ever players in the clubs history.
Yeah Guth was one of our best ever.

He stood up when Moses wasn't around.

Best thing about Iongi this year I thought he was very solid with his kick defusing…. He had a couple of moments in the trials and early rounds and I thought it may have been a worry but he ended up being very solid. That proves A- He reads the game well and B- is confident in his ability

Only a small body but good ball returner and breaks tackles something Gutho lacked.

Plenty to go in terms of ball playing. One of Guthos best traits was he always wanted the ball in his hands, didn’t always nail things but he was willing to have a crack.

Iongi also didn’t actually play that many games with Moses in the side, interested how they can connect this season.

I agree he has probably been slightly overhyped by the broader League public, in saying that happy for him to be our Fullback moving forward.
Guth made alot of breaks running from dummy half, he just didnt have the speed to finish them

Why would the broader League public (and commentators) overhype him? Isn't that more likely to be something we Parra supporters would do?

Mate the last page has literally been other posters saying that we aren’t sure he’s the star that he has been made out to be…

I like Iongi but I know both the John’s brothers used the term ‘superstar’ multiple times through the year. Plenty of others in the media raved about him.

Once again I think he was great this year without being outstanding, not sure he has enough springs to his bow to be an out and out star of the game. Happy to have him on board though.

I think fans are more than likely to overhype players who haven’t debuted yet more in hope than anything.

Not saying the media haven't given him wraps, but maybe they're more neutral so the wraps might be worth it... one day.

They are selling a product that keeps them employed. They talk everyone up basically.

I really enjoyed what I saw from Iongi this season. 8 tries in 21 games as a rookie is pretty handy. 14 try assists, which was just two less than Gutho but fewer games.

You’d have to think if this is his baseline he’s going to be quite handy in a few years time. Sure there’s no guarantee that he improves but usually players do the more they play and gain experience.

The word superstar is just given out freely these days. Any new player that’s played a few good games is a superstar. The Fox commentators and 9 commentators are the ones that are most guilty of it.

Ionghi is no superstar. Not yet anyway.

2026 will be the test. 2nd year syndrome might hit and opposition coaches will start watching tapes on him if Parra starts well.

I don't think any former player in the media provide their honest opinions about every player...most players are "superstars" according to former players. I suspect if they were honest, half the comp would get the shit bagged out of them.

What’s worse is when the media have decided someone is a superstar and a player has an ordinary game but act like they weee the best player on the field and lynchpin of whole match , but an unfancied no name was actually the best player and gets zero wraps

Yeah it’ll be interesting to watch. What he does have in his favour I guess is that he’s now experienced playing Test football as well and isn’t say 19 years of age. It’ll be fun watching his development next year and moving onwards.

Just not in finals. For me that is his down fall. Maybe could argue that Cowboys final.
Same goes for Moses. They had plenty of chances to deliver and go from great to greatness.
Can't do much if your forwards are getting hammered. They went missing in the big games.

In all fairness Moses wasn’t this version of Moses until 2024.

He played 8 games and won 3 in 2024
13 and won 7 in 25.
He is one of the best halfbacks in comp for sure. But he has been rubbish for us the last 2yrs. Yes injured but thats part of the package.
10 win in a possible 48 games . And costing 1.3

If he has another injury plagued season he will be reaching Turbo territory.
