Running a club is basically a business. You need to be realistic otherwise you'll never compete and improve. If you'd rather live in fantasy that's fine. Heaps of fans are. But we need better players to make top 4 and be a title chance.
I'm not sure how being realistic is seen as negative. Hopefully it comes from our juniors.
It definitely needs to come from our juniors. Going out and buying all the first graders we want isn't realistic. You need to be realistic otherwise you'll never compete and improve.

I don't think anyone suggests we should go out and buy NRL players like it's going out of fashion, the frustration stems from the fact that poor choices have been made in relation to spots in the squad and there's been a a big imbalance in the roster since 22.

His still won 3 Premierships, never lost a GF and was the first coach to go B2B in 26 years back in 2018 & 2019.

Bellamy has only won 3 premierships in 23 years with fair rosters.

Fair call, but would you want him over Ryles ?

He's won 3 premierships, but imo, he should have won a lot more with basically a list full of rep players.

All the players we signed would cost a lot more than just Gutherson and RCG. Given we needed to have 30 players and 97.5% of the salary cap filled by June, some of the mid season signings would have been backended into 2026 and beyond, meaning we are paying more for them now than we did last year. You can’t just look at the players we let go and ignore all the ones we brought in. That’s how fans jokingly describe the math going on at the Roosters.

We finished 2025 in above average form, because we had an above average squad. Even with the replacement of Drown and Lomax with Pezet and Kelly, we still have an average squad. That means we should be expected to have spent nearly all of the cap by now. We have room for two signings and unlikely to get more first graders this close to round one, much less rivals releasing stars to play for us. The Storm don’t want to let anyone go to sign Lomax; they want to add him to their existing team.
We lost not only RCG ($700k) and Gutho ($900k) but Sivo ($600k) and a bunch of other players, most on little more than minimum wage and replaced them with nuffies, most on little more than minimum wage. Most came here to get a start in NRL, not for the money, with their pathway blocked at their clubs. We've since upgraded some of them but that wouldn't effect our 2025 salary cap you would expect or even 2026. Lomax would have taken RCGs salary plus Dylan Walker and TDS between them Sivo's salary. In my estimation Gutho's salary is still unspent for 2025 unless some contracts front loaded.

This year we have Kelly, JDB and Pezet who'd between them would take up a little more than Dylan Brown's salary (say $1.2m) and still have Lomax's salary plus other amounts unallocated so have a decent war chest still available.

It’s funny what some people’s opinions on realism are.
Realism means if we don’t have the best squad it’s because nobody at the club (except all these dumb fans) realises the team isn’t the best. The solution to not having the best squad is to go out and buy the players we don’t have, even if we’re competing against the other 15 clubs that also don’t have the best squad. How the f**k could Ryles and MON think we have the best squad in the NRL ffs?!? They are not being realistic!!!!

In 2022 we obviously had a lot of players on unders and now we don’t. To get a significant number of players on unders you need to develop them yourself, and then hope they don’t chase the money as soon as there’s outside interest.

I think some of your numbers are way off but I like them. Brown was definitely on $1.2m and Sivo $600k and Walker & TDS average $300k between them

Nobody changes clubs for ‘little more than minimum wage’. They all want big upgrades.

These guys would have been in high demand. Nobody would have gotten them for peanuts:

JAC
Lomax
Williams
Walker
TDS

A pay increase goes hand in hand with an improved squad status. If a player is expected to play first grade every week, he will expect to be paid accordingly. From the club’s perspective, they need to spend their entire cap (97.5% of it at least) on thirty players, so there’s no reason to try to screw players on their salary.
We've since upgraded some of them but that wouldn't effect our 2025 salary cap you would expect or even 2026.
Definitely 2026, especially for the mid-season signings (Walker and TDS), who might’ve had to sign on the cheap for 2025 when most of our cap was already committed.
Lomax would have taken RCGs salary plus Dylan Walker and TDS between them Sivo's salary. In my estimation Gutho's salary is still unspent for 2025 unless some contracts front loaded.

Drown left because the Knights offered a significant upgrade. Now you’re suggesting he was on nearly as much at our club?

Cmon mate we just lost Lane, Dylan and Lomax.
And replaced them with De Bellin 35yrs old ,Pezet on 12mth loan and Kelly who was pushed out of a highly successful club.

What do you expect. Player of equal value? Thats just unrealistic.
