Zac never really looked comfortable at Parra. He did some great things while there but he was by no means a Super Eel. I saw him as a round hole in a square peg - some days he couldn't even kick a barn door if he had it by the handle. The look on his face at many times suggested he wanted to be somewhere else. I just hope this is sorted before the season starts and we can all move on. But, Parra better not come out of this flog fest looking like they got done over.

Not necessarily, the NRL and the rlpa can just say the clause in the release contract is null and void and he is welcome to play wherever he wants.
No they can’t.

Won’t get that far…

NRL has the final say, they can overrule anything we say or do. The club isn’t going to legally challenge the NRL in court, that would put our licence in jeopardy.
You are giving too much power to NRL as entity.
They really don’t have that much power.

The extent of NRL’s power will be to ratify Lomax’s new contract if it apppears and any other player’s contract should they also transfer clubs.
Which raises an sore point, for should Scum sign Lomax presumably for significantly less than we did, then the NRL need to explain how it isn’t a very similar situation to us trying to sign Israel Folau. Surely there should be a prescribed value for a CURRENT rep player as opposed to a former rep player

Zac has been down in Melbourne .. met with their players and toured their facilities. In his mind it’s another agreement he’s going to be able to weasel his way out of before too long. This peanut brain is on the podium for worst signings of the last 20 years.

My main gripe is that he chose Melbourne. What a shithole. I suppose it compliments his decision making.

They might argue that we are not disadvantaged because we are no longer paying him. Obviously the market means you can't replace a player of his price/value in the time frame we have to recruit for round one, unless someone else highly valuable is willing and able to get a release this close to season kickoff. And what if nobody is? I don't think the NRL will give a shit about us. They want Lomax back in the game. It will come down to the law enforcing Lomax's contract, that he gains no benefit from unless he can find another NRL gig.
These don’t matter. The core issue is whether the restraint of trade is reasonable to protect the club’s interests. Every other issue around whether paying him or not disadvantaged us, what recompense is reasonable to completely release him, or what value is placed on the completed portion of the contract are at best secondary but more likely just noise to the core issue.
I have my opinion over it should it go to legal proceedings.

Sources with knowledge of the situation not authorised to speak publicly confirmed the Storm had offered Parramatta about $200,000 in compensation.
The transfer fee was considered reasonable, according to the same sources, especially given Canterbury paid Wests Tigers $165,000 in compensation for the mid-season arrivalof promising playmaker Lachie Galvin last year.

Any financial compensation will not assist the Eels in the open market. Transfer fees assist clubs with football operations, including pathways, but are not factored into the salary cap.Sources confirmed the NRL is prepared to intervene if the Eels are not prepared to budge and entertain any “reasonable offers” by the Storm, or any rival club in the market for the 26-year-old.

Well my personal view is PVL and the NRL should stay out of it.

And that would have been the same opinion if Tigers or Dogs had Lomax over a barrel.

Its got nothing to do with them

And this is going to open a can of worms in the long term that will damage the credibility of any NRL contract signed and walked out on in the future.

Agreed. No one is forcing Scum to sign Lomax and if NRL are so concerned to get involved with a single player negotiation then where were they when he asked for release
