Agreed but I’m sure everyone at the club knew that this guy had just worked with the spoon knights and the spoon tigers before that. Why the f**k would anyone want to touch this guy?
Maybe those clubs would be more likely to want the best conditioner, to cover the shortfall in their shit rosters?

Speed around the ruck is so important currently. When your first up hooker doesn’t run, then there’s little space creation and with our poor middles in terms of making metres we start our sets a fair distance away and struggle other than Moses kicking.

Add to that our edges aren’t particularly good hole runners, easy to be contained, anyway if the powers that be can’t improve that, we are stuffed. Why is it, whats obvious , isn’t an obvious recruitment target. All this don’t pay overs, we sign retreads and that’s a problem.
Stop whinging about the attack ffs. It’s fine. Our problem is our defence.

Unfortunately Hindy, I can only see a 20+ hiding.

This team was flawed from the start of LAST season when Ryles took over and never managed to secure at least two new front rowers to ad to the squad after we gave up RCG, which was probably the right thing to do IF he then went out and secured two new fresh large bodies that could fill the breach of an already weakening front row rotation.

I know I keep harping on this, but when will we get it through our thick skulls... YOU DON'T WIN BIG GAMES WITHOUT SIZE AND POWER IN THE MIDDLE.

We haven't had the right mix of quality size in our roster while BA was here and even when he took us to the 2022 GF and boy did it show in that game.

Now with Ryles, being an ex middle himself and working with Melbourne for so many years, you would think that he of all people would make it a priority to sign as many quality middles as he possibly could, even if it meant he would weaken other areas initially.

If I said it before, I'll say it again, when building a squad, I start with my halves and my middles and then the dummy half and Fullback. End of.

Now no matter what the quality of the rest of the squad, you will almost never concede these types of embarrassing scoreline defeats if you have those positions covered.

Then the benefit of building up a squad from these strong foundations first is that it greatly assists you in attracting quality in any other position/s that you may need to recruit in without needing to go overboard in overs for them.

Players will almost always go to a strong and well run club for similar money than a basket case like we have been for way to long and that has no identity other then being mentally weak and being in a 40 year long drought.
I would trial kelma in the middle. He has line breaking ability and running of Dylan like luca and Doorey might work.

On the middle, his lateral defence deficiency might not be as bad

If it doesn't work, throw him

We need powerfull backs and forwards. Until then no hooker will find any space anyhows.

When have that TDS should run wild.

Sua fixes one problem. We have about 5 left.

I'm confident our juniors fix 2-3 of those issues. So that leaves 2-3 more signings needed external

We need to remember that Ryles is two years into a four year contract. If we don't recruit to make the team a viable finals threat next season, what player in their right mind would sign for us for 2028 if there is no guarantee Ryles will be the coach?
It may be the very reason they do sign with us.

Give brain smith MONs job

Old bs knew how to spot a good defender
He approached the club for Ryles job and the club knocked him back. Not too sure they’d give him a head job.….

But agree , they should be offering old Smithy whatever he likes to come back, and bring JT with him. He improved Canterbury out of sight before old Gussy threw his twink into the mix.
