That may be true, but when people say things like "Oh, don't worry about Paulo leaving, we've Twal and Alvaro ready to step up and mature", how long are we going to need to wait for them to step up? 18-24 months? We already had that young, local junior prop who offered the team exactly what we need (and still have him for the rest of the year) but unfortunately he is walking away after that.

Who's to say that if Alvaro and Twal do develop in to the ideal pound for pound replacements we need for Junior Paulo by the end of the 2017/2018 seasons, they won't just walk out too if the Titans and Knights come along with massive overs for them?

You need to strike while the irons hot as they say. With the team assembled now, Norman and Foran in the halves, Jennings in the backline, Ma'u entering his peak, Moe'roa getting better and better every year, Peats at 9 etc etc - the one position I think we are lacking is a rep class prop come 2017 and beyond. If Watmough retires there's a fair chunk of cash right there, add the $$'s we had for Paulo and surely you could land JWH. He would cost you more than what we were putting aside for Paulo obviously, but if that the missing piece of a premiership puzzle then I say go for it.

In saying all of that, I'd say JWH is Zero chance of leaving the Roosters... I just wish we had found a way to keep Paulo, but not at the money the Raiders are reportedly paying....

Well, Norman and Peats is not signed for 2017.

I definitely will be going for Norman before a prop who plays 40 odd minutes.

I don't really mind losing Peats though.

We have Mannah, Peni, ALvaro and Gower and probably can resign Wicks.

Backup props would be Twal and Moeroea

None of those guys are props that bend the line and take the energy out of the opposition like Junior. They are all similar style where speed of play and quick play the ball are their strengths. Alvaro may have the potential but is a few years away from reaching it. Either way Junior is a big loss and we have no current player than can fulfill his role as is

No doubt he is a big loss, but he's gone. Look forward.

So would you rather

6. Foran
7. Kelly / Cornish / Benji / Brooks / Moses
8. Mannah
10.Put someone who is off contract

or

6. Norman
7. Foran
8. Mannah
10. Moerea / Wicks
11. Scott
12. Mau
13. Watmough/Edwards

I'd rather have the Norman one.

Mate Watmough is stuffed.

However with his money we can definitely look at someone to fill the void

That's why I have Edwards there.

If we had, Watmough's money, I don't have an issue going for a new prop.

I just think we need to get Norman asap.

We have been struggling with 1 half and 1 erratic half for years.

We finally have 2 good halves but 1 is not signed next year.

A prop is a grunt who plays 40 mins. Easier to cover than a very good halfback

Spot on mate, but don't worry Junior is lazy, poor defensively and easy replaceable apparently...........

Speculation this morning that Brookes and Moses are chasing $700k.

Tits just re-signed Elgey for $750k for 2017/18.

Foran's $1.2m deal looks good value now compared to those rookies..

It is almost twice the amount and he has a dodgie body. I heard him this morning on radio. I doubt he gets 100% fit this year.

Rather then pay 600k for a front rower why not raid another club for a great under 20s prospect?

Or go after Loy Perret or T-rex. Both would be able to play the same role. I cant see why T-rex cant play prop?

'Great under 20s prospects' are in high demand, meaning they're not as cheap as you might expect, based on their experience. Remember, when a player signs a contract it is generally based on his expected performance for the duration of the contract, more so than on how he performed previously.

Or go after Loy Perret or T-rex. Both would be able to play the same role. I cant see why T-rex cant play prop?

Given edge forwards play longer minutes at a harder position, I'm sure they get paid more than front rowers of the same quality. On top of this, most edge forwards would be less effective in the middle, meaning they would be worth less if they switched positions. Therefore why would they change unless they were no longer up to playing out wide?

Id offer T-rex 300k..... If he is offered more let him go elsewhere. If he came for that then we can play him where we like
