I can see the entertainment value. 20m is a bit excessive but I guess they are going for the kickoff style collision.

Excellent, add Burgess to the ever growing list of players who will struggle to sue the NRL in years to come.

George looks like he’s eaten Tom, Luke and Sam.

And just quietly, I reckon half the Manly team wouldn’t like him either.

Never thought a girls sport like the AFL were taking part in this, however the poor buggers will get steamrolled by the League boys big time, this will be fun to watch lol

Conflicted on this...on one hand, it appears to be the one of the dumbest thing I've ever seen, that the tackler seems to lead with their heads with all we know about brain injuries, CTE and so on.

But then I remember boxing, UFC etc exists and people worship those sports, where the explicit goal is to inflict a brain injury on the other person.

So the outrage is probably a bit misplaced.

Big difference is the other guy is running full tilt at you as well, where on the padddock the defence are largely waiting for you, or at least checking themselves a bit in case the runner puts on a step of swerve.

Just saw NAS is promoting it, sorry I retract my previous post. It is, almost now certainly, the dumbest thing I've seen.
Ironically I don’t think NAS would be that good at it with his height, you need a compact centre of gravity to hit low and drive the other guy back. If you wanted to look at the kind of players that would be ideal for it it’d be someone like Konrad Hurrell or Feka Pa’aleasina.

The kind of guys that are delivering spark-out head blows to the other person.

I mean, whatever right, it's them that are choosing to participate in this lunacy. I presume they're aware enough that it comes with head trauma, and the outcomes that go along with that.

Same as boxing.

I still think it's blatant stupidity and callousness on the part of particularly the organisers, but so be it. It was laughable in what I read about 'we have trained medics and do health tests on site before and after' like that plays any meaningful part in someone getting a 130kg shoulder to their temple.

Oh I agree the whole thing is pretty dumb. Definitely a recipe for injury, it’s like those slapping contests, or toe to toe boxing (where the fighters front legs are strapped together so they can’t manoeuvre and just whale the crap out of each other). But some people have an appetite for violence, that’s undeniable.

Toe to toe boxing!!! I have never heard of that.

Darwinism at its most glorious.

Also known as an Irish strap fight. I don’t think anyone has tried to revive it in the modern age, it was the kind of thing that happened in Victorian era prizefighting. I can’t imagine it’d get sanctioned by any authority these days.
