After the game its clear it looks promising that the new rule interpretations have got rid of the aimless kicking... with the tackler rolling away it gives the attacking team an extra couple of seconds to get to the ball carrier which means there is now continuity of possesion..

The first half was a bit of a mess , but with dickinson reffing it was always going to be... guy is a whistle maniac... but at least he let if flow in the second half.

On the Canes they will need to pay a LOT better to be in the top at the end of the round robin, the blues looked very good until Brett imploded... then they fell to pieces.

Good to see a nice crowd first up if it continues like that this will be a very good year.

Yep that intercept from Hosea Gear changed the game completely. Apart from our poor discipline and Brett falling to pieces I thought we played alright.

Kick for territory, wait for the penalty. Only the first game so it should be given time, but that's an embarrasing start made even worse by the commentators trying to hype it up as a return to the good old days.

tried to give the rugby a chance by watching this... was terrible to watch. Gave up after half an hour. Union is such a stop start sport dominated by the ref.

The Canes are always bloody slow in their first halves...they played catch up too many times last year as well and this will not win them the comp.

I actually thought it was a pretty good game. Both teams intent on attacking and taking quick lineouts wherever possible.

Brumbies/Force on the other hand...
complete rubbish.

More due to the short arm penalties disappearing. I preferred that to what we saw in the opening matches.

Brumbies v Force game seem to be ruined by the humid conditions. Force backrow was well on top of the Brumbies and if they play like that again they will get hammered.

Its amazing what not having a whistle happy Aussie ref does... The Crusaders vs Highlanders game was outstanding... the new tackle interpretations have made it a lot better...

Add to that another excellent crowd and it looks like rugby is on its way back.

New year same sh*t from the Tahs. Look clueless in attack and only Barnes goal kicking is keeping them in it. Reds have been awesome so far.
