Dio actually had a hit here when not in Sabbath. And it got to number 7.

The song was Love is all and it was under the name of Roger Glover and guests featuring Ronnie James Dio.

Most people remember it as the Butterfly Ball song.

Yep, I know. So what. lol

Hey Ron , good to hear from another Sabbath man

**Ronnie James Dio, throughout their career instead of a drug taking, alcoholic, foul mouthed dickhead at the helm by the name of Ozzy Osbourne.

A fair comment on his personal habits but, they cranked out some pretty good stuff -Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Never say die and many others.

**Sabbaths music with Ronnie James Dio was extremely better structured, written and last but certainly not least far better sung.

Totally different band for mine. Black Sabbath was just a brand name and bore no real resemblance to the line up that included Osbourne and Ward

**True Sabbath & Metal heads appreciate Ronnie James Dio as the better front man then Ozzy, as they too know exactly how much talented he is.

That's a fine opinion. I though Dio was a great singer but was a boring frontman. Still, I like both of them

**At present Ozzy needs help to go too take a piss at his home, or too even scratch his arse he needs a hand or two, on the other hand Ronnie James Dio is still recording and planning to tour America with Ritchie Blackmore as a Rainbow reunion seems to be on the cards.

I'll wait and see about how good the others are when they do it. I'm sure Ozzie can still pee unaided. I reckon he is a mess though. I'd use him on a TV ad and say 'Hey kids, here's what happens when you do coke and drink too much'.

**Ozzy is currently being rewarded for his mediocrity with the Osbournes, which shows just basically what genetics the kids of Ozzy ( apart from one) have inherited.[/quote] :

yeah, it sux. To think that Oz is held up on that show as the voice of reason.

The original Sabbath should not be judged on todays events.

Both were great for the band but I rekon Dio enabled the Sabbath band to continue playing long and bettter that i would have if Ozzy remained in the band.

But would they have been in the same position, success wise, if Ozzy wasnt in the band for them to continue?

Don't forget that at thier inception they were seen as an extreme band, even the name, Black Sabbath, was offensive to some and you needed a guy that had balls and was a little off to front a band like that. The price he paid for his youth is evident now, but to take what he did away and compare with Dio just does not make sense. Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill made history.............Dio filled in, at best.

Dio didnt make an appearence until Sabbath became more accepted and mainstream, he didnt push the band to any new heights, he didnt inspire a new legion of fans, he wasn't and, never will be, pure bred Sabbath so I just can't see the comparison.

Ronnie James Dio in Sabbath is the equivalent of
Farnham in LRB
Stevens in INXS
Terence trent darby in INXS
anyone but Hutchenece in INXS
The doors minus Jim
The skyhooks minus shirl and red
Gilmour leading Floyd

it's just not cricket.

Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy

Another Ozzy fan

Funny how you mention Ozzy and imediately people start talking of torture, something that morton influenced.

As for DIO being boring??? you're are kidding   ........thats the stupidest thing i've heard  Ozzy can't even stand up without a walking stick and yet he's more entertainment

Whats funny is that atleast The Ratt singer didn't try and kill his wife and blame it on " Voices"

Ozzy for number 1  ....that's if he gets those evil voices out of his drug-ridden/alcohol ridden 50+ winkled body

ridiculous argument. stick to the music black sabbath created with dio and ozzy. in my opinion ozzy sabbath was much better than dio. allthe classic sabbath tracks had ozzy upfront wailing and screaming his guts out. your first argument based itself on how good sabbath wouldve been if they had dio and now your main argument is how screwed up a 50+ ozzy is. ozzy in his prime with sabbath was great and is one of the most influential bands in history.

It bothers me how You am i are actually still alive and writing about RJD  ;-)

BTW

Fat Mike, you're right, it's just an opinion...however i do believe if DIO was the original singer the longevity would've been more, songs would've been better sung, written & structured.

DIO is the epitome of a good front man & musician.

His work ethic is unqestionable, his musical abilities are well documented, his use of Dragons, dungeons etc in his lyrics are just brillant.

Heaven & Hell is probably the most talented piece of music to be done by Sabbath followed closely by Voodoo & Neon nights.

Last but not least, anyone heard the story of when Van Halen opened for Sabbath in 77 just before VH released it's first album?? well the story goes that Sabbath imparticulary Ozzy was just that aweful that Van Halen absolutely blew them of stage, apparently every frontline bands worst nightmare

So basically you're not an early Sabbath fan. So what? No one cares. And you should judge the music on exactly that, the music! 30 years ago Black Sabbath were killer and I would have loved to have seen them, fronted by anyone of their dozen or so singers mind you.

I was once an early Sabbath fan, and yes there are songs that i still like from early Sabbath including Never say die, Changes, war pigs etc however when i was introduced to Sabbath with DIO it changed my whole perspective on Sabbath, i thought how f**king brillant Sabbath sounded with DIO then OZZY!

I appreciate a good voice, and RJD provides that, sure he didn't bite the heads of bats off....but he'd let his voice do the talking ( naturally) which is all that matters.

DIO is the better talent of the two, anyone that disagrees have rocks in their head, like it or not :!:

I seriously doubt that Ozzy ever contributed to the songs creations.

He just sang them (with I few "I f**ken Love you all" during Live versions).

Indeed, Geezer Butler was the chief song writer.
