Gee it's hard deciding on who our next coach should be blacksafake. Even if we had Bellamy, Robinson, Bennett, Cleary, .......Flanno, Madge or Hasler, would they be capable of turning us around with the total squad we currently have? Nearly half of our players need to go and to pay the sort of money needed to get replacements that we have for a long time identified, will require that coach and someone of high standing from the club to lure them across. I don't know. To me it seems too hard a task. We keep going around and around and we continually have to rebuild.

It wouldn't be too bad if you had already a nucleus of a good squad and you just need to tweak a few players here and there but not as many tweaks as we need to do to maintain a good team for every year.

For example, if you take the Roosters, they know that they will lose a couple of players each year and they work on who they can get to replace them ages beforehand. They just tweak a bit here and there to fill the numbers to an already solid squad. Same as the Storm and several other successful clubs.

We could gradually do the same, but can we wait years and years to achieve this?
I think we have lots of players coming off contract so it’s really all about quality recruitment

How sad but very true. I watched a game the other day on Fox of a Mary coached team and they played better footy than what I have seen in the last 2 years. They actually looked competitive and threatening with the ball. And that was with Norman in the halves.
There were a few games last year that we won but felt like a loss.

We played boring, safety first, 5 hitups and bomb on the last that puts you to sleep.

A reflection of the coach.

Hook had 80% of this forum fooled upon his appointment including me..i was so confident he would achieve w us..he is proven to be nothing more than an out of touch dinosaur...majority of the playing group dislike him, his methods are pre historic and has absolutely no grasp of the modern day game, cant man manage, cant harness a team environment, cant f**ken coach, cant do anything! ....someone like Hasler would come in for 2 seasons instill some mongrel, self belief, kick some doors, build a siege mentality which he did very well at Manly, then hand over to a young career coach like a Ryles etc..seriously this is a no brainer decison..the club is on its knees!!

Have been giving some thought as to what the people inside the club have going through their heads. Have come to the conclusion they are so consumed with running around doing what they think is administration of a football club. The one missing ingredient in their understanding is that's not the full picture, the job is to bring hope to people. Supporters who live and breath the game, supporters who pledge their hard earned to keep the club viable. They have epically failed to bring any hope for a significant period of time and in my eyes failed at their job.

I'm an advocate of a management principle I call 'parity of authority and responsibility'. It is apparent to me that there are many people in the StGI system who exercise lots of authority but carry zero responsibility. This disparity lies at the heart of virtually all disfunction in organisations. Nobody is accountable! It's too easy to say it all sheets home to the head coach. The teams that underperform invariably have a head coach who is made a fall-guy by their club. This mentality is a cause, not an effect.

I did not realise Ryles was under Bellamy for 6 years. Wow, This guy has really served his apprenticeship well and had good mentors. If Fitzy can do what he has to the Sharks under similar circumstances as Ryles then surely you would go Ryles. I really like what the Tigers are doing with Sheens and Benji. Saints can do the same with Hasler and Ryles. Give Hasler 2 years (2023 - 2024) and Ryles 3 after that (2025 - 2027). I think this will also attract better cattle for next season and possibly more sponsorship. One thing for sure, with Hasler the refs will probably punish Saints less more on the field as well. He is not afraid to give it to them which is my main reason I would like Hasler.

Hook was horrible from the beginning, he already had major flaws at other clubs then we actually signed up this horrible coach, along with his horrible coaching assistants at the time. Who pays for it? The fans. I hope no one shows up to our home games, they don't deserve our money. Watch it at home or pub etc. use the money better, don't waste it on this pathetic excuse for a club. Once they improve and show some professionalism, I'll start backing them financially again (membership/merch etc.)

I would like a Hasler, Hornby combination. Hasler is the only one with the balls to do what needs to be done here, right across the club. Its up to the club not to F%^K around on this.
Most probs won't agree but if we have to go to a past player (it is the dragons way) I'd like something like

Coach
Ryles

Assistants
Hornby
Hannay

Head of football ops
Hasler

Recruitment and pathways
Browny

Left right out
Deano (for now at least)

Good young coach with respected and experienced support. Unfortunately we would have to flash the cash and that's pretty unlikely
