Agree Possm but, If news reports are correct and both Cleary and Hasler are being linked to the Tigers, we will more than likely end up with Mary. If he survived after the 2016 season the board are looking more unlikely to part with him. Only time will tell, but from what we can see its their Modus Operandi.

I've noticed that a number of posters have accepted that McGregor will be offered an extension. It is right now that this thread needs to be more active than ever, Mary has shown over an extended period he can't do the job.

If we start talking about his extension it eases the pressure on the club to change him. We need to be talking about getting rid of him. Also, the speculation about who a new coach could be doesn't help as there is no consensus. Everyone has a different idea who they think it should be and this dilutes the majority thinking making it easier for the club to do what they want with the excuse of, we cant please everyone.

People may not agree with me and that's fine but, I think we need to be focusing on one message to the club. Get rid of Mary now!

Agree..but I think that the club will stick with Mary. Look at the tigers, if Mary was there he would have been gone at the end of last year.
The statement they made was something to the effect, "We need a coach who can lead us to premiership success and Taylor is not that Man" is exactly the problem our club suffers with. They seem to be happy to make the 8 every few years. Therein lies the difference....OUR BOARD HAS LOST The HUNGER FOR SUCCESS. That's the only reason you could justify the last 5 years of mediocrity.

I think you are probably right but I just do not want to see us accepting it. The board are a disgrace and even if we know or think we know what their decision will be we need to keep the fight going.

Enough unrest from fans and falling member numbers will eventually have an affect on the Board. Whether it happens before the club is killed is the question. The NRL can't leave St George to die an ugly death as it reflects on the game. However, their answer may not be what we would like but, they can't and won't just turn a blind eye forever.

I think we should have another poll to see the preferred coach from the forum , maybe if possible we should have 4 other option in order apart from your preferred 1.
Mc48%Coach would be 5th option, only if he could increase his percentage to 75% by the end of 26 rounds.

The problem we have is this Football Committee that was put into place to iron out and manage the teams past idiosynchrasies (recruitment, coaching responsibilities etc).

If they employed an experienced coach he would have done that job for them - but it seems that the board and club are happy w Mcgregor staying on as coach and hence relieving him of all responsibilities except coaching - ONLY iF HE FAILS THIS YEAR to make the top 8 will they relieve him of his duties because then it will be proven that w the simple responsibility of just coaching a very competitive roster of players he hasn't the ability to produce results ..

So in summary at some point the board IMO are waiting for Mcgregor to either fail or succeed before making a decision - if he fails they will bring a coach in under the same management conditions in place ..

I think this wil be a problem in recruiting a great coach because a great coach wants free rein across All aspects of the football dept and they won't be getting that w the Dragons.

Hence the option if Mcgregor fails will fall into the hands of coaches like Walters, Demetriou etc who are looking for the opportunity to land a NRL position.. I can't see Hasler, McGuire coming here under these conditions...

Mary's power game might be the way to go., but it won't work with some of the opposition teams. Mary does need to have more then one game plan.
He also needs to transition our juniors and get his bench rotation up to scratch.
It's about winning but it is just as important to bring the younger players through.

Hang on kids.......Mad Madges team finished BEHIND Marys team last year! And he had a superior roster! Like many players.. Mad Madge is a myth of a coach. One year does not make a legend. Repeat after me....SOUTHS FINISHED BEHIND US. Now stay back in detention and write it on the board 100 times. What was the reason Madges little Wabitoh team finished behind us? Was it because Soufs opposition scored too many tries from kicks just like they did against us?

Just like this whole thread was saying Cleary and then Hasler would be our coach. This thread does not know much. More chance of winning lotto than any of ya posts ever coming true

Yeah seems qualified alright, longest serving Superleague Coach 16 years, but he's contracted until end of 2018. Also a naturalised Pom now, seems set up over there.

What on earth are you talking about? They were not thereabouts in 2015. Lasted one game longer than us in 2015 and finished behind us last year. At leasy state facts. In the past 2 years even mcgregor has outcoached the angry ant known as mad madge.

Wait, so your argument for Mary being better is that his team finished above Madges last year, then you say that Mary out-coached him in 2015 despite Souths finishing above us?

What the grumples? With the team madge had at soufs in 2015 he should have coached them to the top 3. Yes, he massively under perforned. McGregor got us to where we should have gotten, 8th. Then one year on Madge failed even worse. But I wont cut straws over very similar results in the past 2 years. Please tell Mr expert, why would you want us to sign a coach who has no better results in the past 2 yrs than mary has? Its like divorcing your wife and dating your mother in law. Oh no, have you?

I will judge Mary's performance after 10 rounds have been completed . Up to date we have managed two excellent performances and one poor . There's one thing that is abundantly clear and that is the new found enthusiasm in the players - a good sign that something has changed within the team .

Perhaps even , dare i say it , Mary has regained the respect of the locker room ? Even the teams captain ( and best player ) Gareth Widdop no longer appears as ' Jack Frost ' at the post match interviews , he even smiles now !
Whatever the case may be , he must take the team as far as possible, whilst maintaining solid all round performances .

If the man cannot do this , well I can only say that the board must start to look for another who can . They will need to inject some new blood into the Dragon's body , before it becomes a carcass .

I have posted previously and presented some stats about many different coaches. Whoever coaches needs the 'cattle' as the saying goes. Even Jack Gibson ( 3 seasons at sharks 43% win ) and Wayne Bennent (3 Seasons at Knights 39% win) slipped when injuries and circumstances meant an ordinary roster.

Maguire has a very high win percent over his 1st grade career. At Souths a win % of 59% and including Wigan it rises to 64%. That is as good as Wayne Bennent. When Maguire had his roster sweet spot at Souths he won the comp as coach. So he can coach and it would be hard to call him a myth.

I wouldn't be against him coaching the Dragons.

And whats his win loss for past 2 years? 44%? So no thanks. You think his team look like they enjoy playing for him? Not for the past 2 years they havent. And this year it looks the same.
