Yeah we took the foot off the accelerator in the final 20 minutes. Hampstead had a shocker again, he really is the worst ref in the comp, only this time the crucial errors were made in our favour. Although Mr Hampstead did several get-squares in the final 20 minutes. That final try was a laugh :lol:

The Fox commentators were clearly biased, and were stating every decision went against Newcastle was incorrect.

What exactly was incorrect tonight, Newcastle had more then enough crap calls go their way.
Zeb Taia held and passed from the ground, 3 tackles later they score...should have been a penalty to us.
Beau Scott charge down called a knock on, they get the scrum feed, should have been our ball.
Their last try was as forward (twice as you will ever see).

The one call I'll say they got wrong was possibly the MacDougall pass to his right hand side winger.

I really have to agree on the commentators. Scott has an iffy grasp of the rules at times but Andy Raymond was pure rubbish. Every Dragons player was sledging the poor Knights players all match. And only Newcastle got dud calls. :roll:



Here is my take on all the 'controversial' and 50/50 decisions:

1. Poore hits a falling Vuna high. No action. 50/50. Penalty probably justified.
2. Nightingale taken across touch in-goal but ruled held up. Ref calls held just after Nightingales right elbow touches ground. Incorrect call.
3. Setu held up and ruled to be offside from 'kick' by Sailor. Correct call.
4. Saffy penalised for not being square at marker. I think this was incorrect because he had run back the full ten metres before he made the tackle so he put himself back onside.
5. Knights #19 penalised for shepperding Stanley out of the play. Clearly went out of his way to knock him over. Correct call.
6. Stanley BotD try. Ball is still in contact with Stanley's hand when it touches the tryline. Harsh but correct call.
7. Vuna 'tackles' Sailor in mid-air. Vuna attempts to take ball but grabs Sailor's arms instead. Again harsh but correct.
8. Pass from Steve Simpson called forward. travelled about 1.5-2 metres forward. Technically correct but often that sort of pass is let go.
9. Grubber from Hornby is knocked backwards by Prior to Young. Play on call correct.
10. Knights player passes after being tackled by Soward. Play-on call incorrect.
11. Charge down by Scott ruled knock on. Incorrect.
12. McDougall touches ball on to McManus called forward. Goes forward about 2 metres but like before these are usually let go.
13. Tolar loses ball in tackle. Play of the ball ordered. Incorrect.
14. Bailey passes ball forward to Gidley who is in an offside position. Called forward pass instead of penalty. Incorrect.
15. Nightingale shrugs off high grab. No call made.
16. Steve Simpson appears to lose ball forward and try given to Gidley. No conclusive TV angle available to make judgement.

By my reckoning the Knights had 8 of 16 go their way and 6 of these were incorrect and 1 dubious. The Dragons however had 7 go their way and 2 were incorrect and 3 were dubious.
I don't think you can say the win was cheapened by the refereeing but you can say the broadcast WAS cheapened by the commentating.

their first try should never have been allowed, Zeb clearly knocks on, then passes from the ground after Hampstead clearly called held on sports ears. Also the last try was a joke, when hornby protested, Bean says dont worry the games over anyhow, what a tool.

At home I'm always quietly confident about our chances against the Raiders but there is something about complacency after winning 7 games, so kinda of a danger game and the last 20mins of the Knights game showed that you just cannot switch off for that long or you risk of losing a game that you should've won.
