Saints record in Danger

There was a letter in the Daily Telegraphs sport section today stating that Saint George's long standing world record for consecutive premierships is in danger of being overtaken.

Apparantly a Norwegian soccer team "Rosenborg Ballklub" won it's 10th consecutive premiership recently. Their main dangers in next years Norwegian Premiership are Lillestrom and Viking, and the letter implores all Dragon supporters to support these clubs and protect our standing as the greatest club side in the history of all sport.

I don't really think that this Norwegian clubs achievements stand though, I'm still to be convinced that Soccer counts as a sport

I don'tknow anything about Norwegian Soccer. Is this a First Grade Competition?
The St George record for 11 straight premierships is a first grade world record for any sport.
To be on the safe side, we may have to send over a an elite squad to nobble the Rosenborg Ballklub team before their season starts.

Rosenburg are definitely a first division side. They will probably give the European Cup more than a decent shake.

I think it's only fair that Saints and Rosenburg line up in a winner take all contest.

I believe that Saints will confuse their opponents by picking up the ball and running with it. The extra two men on the field will come in handy as well.

thought that seeing as your contemplating Bathurst uni you might like this tidbit.
In 1959 Oberon rlfc started a 9 year premiership streak, in 1968 they came up against a very dogged Bathurst St Pats who toppled them in the gf. From there Oberon went on to win the next 4 premierships and had they won in '68 it would have been 14 straight for them.

Well I certainly never though I would be supporting a team called Lillestrom, let alone any soccer side hehe.

I like the sound of taken on this team in a game. With the way our defence was this year we might as well take up a non-contact sport

Would we use our current line up or the same team that won the premierships? I can't really imagine Ken Kearney running around a soccer field in Norway for some reason....

Feral Dragon: Very interesting, I hadn't heard of that record even though I have family in Oberon. My father was away from Oberon at Boarding school for 6 years in that streak so maybe that is why I haven't heard of it.
So I guess Saints are now the second greatest club side in the world behind Oberon RLFC. They might not have won more consecutive titles than us but I think that Oberon's world wide fame should be enough to get them home.
What's the St George Leagues Club when compared to the Big Trout Motor Inn of Oberon fame?

Yes, some of us have know of this threat for a while. Our initial hope was for Viking to end their run, but the potential saviour turned out to be Lillestrom, who losta vital game to Rosenborg in the last few rounds. How ever, Rosenborgs efforts in the Tippenlagen will hopefully ceasewith them losing their long time manager at the end of this season (they are still in the Champions League). Fortunatly, the competition has evened up a bit so there is a good chance that next year will not be Rosenborgs.

Well, it looks like I will be following the Tippenlagen for one more year.

Youngie - talk about co-incidences!
I've kind of got family in Oberon in too!! Well my dad's cousin and her family anyway, but still - you're family and mine together prob make up half the population of the town!
Not only that, but my cousin is currently at Bathurst university!

It's a small world after all, it's a small world after all

This is pretty weird, Oberon is not a big place yet the entire population seem to have some link to Legends World of Sport.

Maybe this is like the 6 degrees of seperation where you can link Kevin Bacon to any star in hollywood in 6 steps.
Maybe anybody in the world can be linked to LWOS in 6 steps, Six degrees of LWOS.....

well, bugger me - I don't come from Oberon (was that a character from Midsummer Night's Dream ?) butI did come from a cold, high country town that had a Big Salmon.
Could this be a weird form of "What town am I ?"
The local team was the Stallions, and when I knocked around it was a disgraceful version of the bulldogs, but orange instead of blue - bastard of a trick that 70's colour scheme. The town also had a bar (the public !) in the main hotel which was entirely covered in purple shag pile (grooooovy baby), floors, walls, ceiling, bar. God (as you can guess) it was hard to get out of the dam place.........Once they held the State chess championships at the hotel and it was a gas seeing all these guys in dark frame glassess, held together with elastoplast drinking lemonsquash, with a kick of cloves, whooey, did that place rook........

Actually, we're lucky we're talking team sports. Imagine how good the child of Walter Lindrum and Heather McKay (both ex-Saints players, well, Heather came from the Illawarra so she's really a steeler) would be at table tennis.

and the swede in me says the norweigans are just pussies anyway, even Adamson could play a full game, even Taylor would look good......aw, yeah, that's right - we let him look really good.
damn, now I've gone and made too many posts, I got into trouble elsewhere for posting same thread concepts in new posts.................
