Salary Cap Auditing

OK, this isn't a shot at Schubert, more a questioning of whether the situation in the NRL has gotten too big for someone like Schubert to handle.

Clearly if the Storm were able to get away with this for so long, and the Dogs breach only came out in a roundabout way the job is too large for Schubert and his team.

Given the NRL is a massive corporation, with 16 clubs to administer and funds numbering in the hundreds of millions of dollars, surely is it not time for the NRL to abandon in house salary cap auditing and contract a large, well equipped accountancy firm to handle it?

No. I think this situation prooves that Schubert is fine. You have to remember, audits arent police investigations. You get reports, you check that they balance, you check them against bank records and contracts. ALL of those things in this case would have been correct, it doesnt mean its the truth. Schubert would have inititially checked records that were signed off by the CEO and board, that not only went to schubert, but the ATO and News ltd. You cannot expect an accountant to find things that are extremely well hidden, not unless you do a full audit every single year and nobody ever does this. he is there to check the validity of documents that the people responsible for in the eyes of the law have signed off on...This is a crime in my opinion and i believe in the coming days you will see that the police will believe its fraud plain and simple and you cannot expect the salary cap audit to reveal it, its just not ever going to happen.

In this case, Schubert actually did very well to actually get his hands on the 'folder' concerned once he found out about it. In this case he has done his job very well. People expect to much of audits, what we should expect more of is the people that get paid 400k a year to take responsibility for a companies finances. The fact that these merkins, have dragged the game back into the gutter after such a renaisance to me is f**king unforgiveable. i dont blame the NRL, nor Schubert. This one is squarly at the business men operating at the storm.
