I think the scary part is that we have the figures wrong on Widdopp,Dugan, Packer, Mann, Milne and others. With all the movements and their form so far the prices will all rise. !! What we are forgetting is Melb is looking for halves, as are Bulldogs who are letting half their team go pretty much. Brisbane is looking for a half and maybe 2 as Milford wont agree or budge on his demands, West Tigers will be looking for half's, fullback, front row, etc etc, newcastle is cashed up and looking for every position.
Unfortunately Widdopp,Dugan and Packers value is increasing and they are just sitting back and waiting and their form is helping their cause even more.
I'm scared we will be in for some bad news, worse than we anticipated.

On the salary cap reduction my personal thoughts are that the NRL may be getting extremely worried as to how easily 1mil contracts are being handed out in the last couple of months, ie Hunt, Taumalolo confirmed. Tedesco, Woods, Barba, Cronk, etc and they are worried that the game will not sustain these amounts in the long run (I have to say that i Agree) The average player will now be looking for 500k +
I think they may be trying to put the brakes on for the sake and future of the game.
Of course that desicion now throws teams who have committed ie Dragons - Hunt, Cowboys - Taumalolo planning into dissaray as obviously they were banking and basing the cap to be at 10mil.

I think a good start would be to 'put the breaks on' and cut the salaries and perks of NRL officials. 8.3m cap for 16 clubs = 132.8m. The NRL makes far in excess of this figure and so they should re-priorities their spending rather than cut the salary cap. The NRL is in competition with AFL, soccer and union for players so, we must maintain increases in player salaries or lose our players to other sports.

If they let Moses go due to cap pressure and saying they cant afford him as Tedesco and Woods are priorities how the hell can they afford Widdop?

They will pay more for Woods than any other forward we have.

Tedesco about as much as hunt and Brooks re-signed for 550k per season.

They pulled out of negotiations with Moses I believe because maybe the cap won't be as high as they think, he would've been asking around 550-600? Widdop is asking for more, so how can they get him?

Also Milne for 300?! I highly doubt, could be wrong but what's he done to justify that? They'd be better off re-sighing Nofoaluma.

It seems that TPA's will determine the affordability of Widdop and Dugan. I believe we signed Hunt with a TPA in place and so now it's a matter of sighing Dugan and Widdop with a TPA. We can afford Packer under our cap however, if he is offered more by other clubs, we will have to revert to one of our younger forwards to fill his place; I'd think Kerr at this stage - prop for prop.

I think that we should unload the following:-
Glymin
Havili
FaiFai Loa
Marketo
Masoe
Matthews
McCrone
Milne
Nightingale
This should free up at least $2 million
and allow us to re-sign Ah Mau, Dugan, Packer and Widdop. We need to use our juniors and not rely on externally recruiting overpriced NSW Cup standard players who are not up to NRL standard.
Backline Reserves-Dodd, Dufty, Garrick, Herbert, Hutchison, Nona
Forward Reserves-Hind, Kerr, Lawrie, Leilua, Robson,
Sele

I'd be keeping Nightingale. Plus his hit towards the salary cap wouldn't be much would it? We get 300k veteran allowance? He's the only one that's eligible for that

With the Salary Cap change, I think it may not be increasing as much in some parts but there are some parts of it that are increasing e.g the 10 loyalty for players I think from memory goes from 100k to 300k. Something Dragons can put Nighty under. Scary as he is the only 10+ player they probably have in FG. Also maybe backend of De Belin's contract and Frizzel's may fall into that as well in a few years when Nighty retires. That will be a bit of cash shaved off the cap which Saints can use.

Tedesco and Woods departing for Bulldogs as early as this week. Bulldogs have put forward contracts to both players..
http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/...-woods-from-wests-tigers-20170409-gvh8m5.html
If Tedesco and Woods are leaving then they would have had plenty of money to retain Moses so are they saying he is shit and not worth having?
Widdop finally has a strong St GI squad who are possibly real premiership contenders over the next 2 - 3 years so why would he go to a basket case of a club that will take 3- 4 years to get anywhere?
Widdop has few good years left I am sure he will want to try & win premierships and prolong his career at a strong club rather than getting busted at a sole less, heartless club..
Lst but not least you have to remember louveoursaints and Capital the resident experts on the subject of Widdop stated nobody wants him so therefore no problems stop fretting.

If we offer packer something decent he will stay.
Widdop will be offered more at the tiger i think he will stay if we can go close.
Because if he goes to the tigers he will have all the pressure of being the man again.
While if he stays hunt will have the pressure not him.
Milne as far as I no has been offered a big increase on what he get here.
Als o at tigers he will play week in week out wich is not happening here.
If I was him I would go.

Nightingale is in negotiations to extend his career by another year or two. Unfortunately because of a few factors i.e paying 'overs' for Hunt, the salary cap to be much less than hoped for, and a captain who (I reckon) still doesn't have a great relationship with the coach, I reckon Saints will have a gap at five-eighth next season.
