Whilst people feel for Flanno, he is the one putting his son ahead of the club & fans. They should have been chasing a 7 from last year after Illias failed yet chose not to. Atko was signed as a 6. The let go of Glover, which he stated he left due to having his pathways blocked. It seems to be a very toxic environment and like Glover, Saints may have more walk out the door sooner rather than later. He and Glover clearly stated they left because of the coach. He had a good run at the Sharks, but none of his kids were playing NRL for the club then. Tannah Boyd, Sandon Smith, Savala, etc were available and Saints should have gone in hard for them. Even Toby Sexton would have possibly been an upgrade for a year or 2 until Reed was ready.
Has anyone ever thought that the reason the Saints struggle to bring in good players is simply because of Flanno? They don't want to play under a coach that has his favourites. No matter how good you are you are treated differently to others. You can see it a mile away. Guys would have shockers yet picked each week whilst others like Illias are dropped after a few bad games. Illias looked good on the weekend against the Broncos and against Saints the week before. Flanno's past indiscretions have turned off players going anywhere near him. Parents of these kids are telling them not to go near a guy that has been involved in performance enhancing drugs. I have never seen Saints struggle to sign players like this before. Saints previously picked up Ben Hunt, Widdop, Benji, Soward, Fein, etc decent halves that were in their prime or still decent. Now no half wants to go near the joint.
It would not surprise me at all if Saints bring in a new coach, anyone that is even Dean Young, and Saints become a more attractive place to be and pick up some good signings for the future in a quick period of time. As much as people are dreading Dean Young, he may attract players as he has been involved in the NSW set up as well as may have ties in Nth Qld. Hornby the same at Souths. Baz got Burton and Kikau to the Dogs so even he has some pull.
Dolphins have been around in 3 years or so and have managed to pick up a squad that is so much better than Flanno's in his tenure. Benji has built a stronger side in 2 years than Flanno in 3.
