Glad that he has re-signed, but that's a bit of a lengthy contract. I'm guessing we must be happy with what we're going to be paying him under the salary cap if we're extending his contract to expire in 5 years.

That's a surprise. I imagine we got a good deal. Looks like Sam will end up a one club player. When he is on he is a quality player.

What's the long serving player allowance now? 300K? We could be paying him less than 100K cap-wise.

Great. He's a good player. Not in his best form this season, but the last couple of games he's started to muscle up. Think he'll be a beast next season (and hopefully the rest of this).

Eh bit long but based on talent and age he should be our leading prop for the next 5 years. Doubt he got too dollar given Gus was trying to shift him before the long serving player rule. Good luck Mac Truck good to have you on board.

Agree with most here. Restructuring of his contract over a longer term will enable a good offer to Moylan, Cartwright and peachey.

My guess is that it's a decreased amount in exchange for job security, coupled with the fact that nobody else in our roster will be eligible for long service allowance until about that time anyway. Does anybody know who the next available player would be under the current rules?

Players that will be still around in 5 years? Brown & Mansour maybe.

Hypothetically speaking it would be any of our 2nd longest serving players so probably a handful of blokes who came in at the same time. But nobody would be eligible for about the length of time McK's wrapped up for now (maybe a year or two earlier?). Effectively, we'd be getting a prop for next to nothing for that time.

The allowances certainly don't help Penrith as much as some other clubs, but this is a smart move given the circumstances just provided his form doesn't go backwards.

Edit: so, it's $200,000 for 8 years continuous service including Holden and NSW cup. I'm not sure who our 2nd longest serving players are, but it would be McK and daylight wouldn't it?

Brown only started last year. Mansour is the only one.
Assuming you count junior years of some description, Moylan and Cartwright might be a crack.

Makes more sense given that. He's effectively on 250k Max.

How good is Gus? He re-signs him even after he has publicly lamented the over the top contracts our juniors were on when he re-joined the club. Grant chose to spit his dummy out and leave, Sam knuckled down and now gets a five year contract. Attitude is everything. On ya Sam.
