That is a shock, would be interested to hear what Wigan think about it all.
That's a pretty solid looking Barbarians side

Ian Lenagan, chairman and owner of the Warriors said: "The Wigan club and Sam are very pleased to accept the Barbarians' invitation.
"Sam is an exceptional player in either code of rugby and his selection shows the growing mutual respect between the codes of rugby league and rugby union in England.
"It's a great opportunity for Sam to experience the Twickenham atmosphere and showcase his talents on another major stage."

Rumoured that this has something to do with his new contract.

He can't negotiate with any party for 3 years of his 5 year contract, but its likely once the 3 years are up he will probably go to Union. Maybe the NRL at a stretch.

The extra 2 years on the contract are so that Wigan get something for his release.

Wigan have been trying to form a "partnership" with an English RU club for a while now. Not sure why. Anyway, Sam being "loaned" is likely part of this "partnership", with his brother already playing Union.

Strange times in England. They could have really used a 4N win.

typical of this pathetic sport
despite being played by 5 times the number of people in England as Rugby League

it still has to look to its smaller rival to find real talent

mainly because like here in Australia
its talent pool is full of inbred ... hoity toity upper class private school toff twats.

oxygen thieves ... all who play it & watch it
I hope Young Sam sticks with a real sport ... off the back of the next TV deal & a big increase to the salary cap , I hope an NRL club with a big offer can intice him here

As you do at life!

You lost any form of credibility long ago.
The McCrone/Berrigan comparison earlier was embarrassing, I felt bad for you....but then I remembered why I should just laugh, and disregard your future posts, like most do.

So Wigan and RFL yell from the rooftops that they've re-signed Tomkins and he cannot he even talk to a union club in the next three years.

So what next do we read? He's friggin turning out at Twickenam to play a union game.

Well done rugby league in England.

Pathetic.

I was really hoping he'd come over to the NRL because decent league players seem way more vulnerable to union raids over there. With the new TV deal coming up rugby league in Oz will not be losing anymore players to union (well players that it wants to keep anyway).

Tomkins isn't half as good as people make out.
He's fantastic against a broken defensive line, however present him with one....like the Kangaroos did last weekend, and he has nothing. Not worth the hype IMO.

After all the toffs from Twickers have done to RL in England since 1895, this bloke jumps at the chance to go play a showpiece game for them.

Where's your pride son?

I'm certain Pommy RL fans will be booing him even harder now.
