Schoolboy Championships

6 Holy Cross Ryde boys (from the Balmain SG Ball team) have made the NSW CCC team to compete in the Schoolboy Championships. In addition, another member of the Balmain SG Ball team, Paul Simona, has made the team from St Patricks Blacktown.

Interestingly. a player from St Gregorys College, Joe Stimson, has also made the team. I understand he is from Temora and would be interested to know if he is related to former Balmain forward, Mark Stimson, also from Temora?

Mania Cherrington should hopefully make the NSW CHS and Salesi Funaki from Westfields may also make the team.

Not a bad effort from the Balmain Tigers.

Joe Stimson is Mark Stimson's nephew. His father, Peter Simson, played a handful of games for Souths in the mid-90s. Mark Stimson was a seriously underrated player who was destined for higher honours until he lost a few toes in a workplace accident. He came on the scene at the same time as Glenn the turd Morrison and I think he was the better of the two.


I just found that Mark, Peter and Joe all play for the Temora cricket team. What a sporting family! Didn't Payten used to play for Temora as a keeper occasionally in the off-season?

I know Todd Payten is from Temora. The Stimson's are a talented family and yes Mark was a typical Riverina forward. A very good player who never received the recognition he deserved.

A young centre and Tigers' recruit from St Edmunds College in Ipswich, Rory Humphreys, has been selected in both the Queensland Reds Under 18 team and also the Queensland Open Schoolboys Rugby League Team. Not a bad effort.

I worked in Temora a couple of years ago. Mark Stimson was still running around for them, with Steve Reardon of the Bulldogs, three of Ryan Hinchcliffe's brothers ( one had been in the lower grades at the Knights and Eels) and off the bench was this 17/18 year old called Josh McCrone.

Payten and Trent Barrett are both from there too.

I played Rep cricket against Mark's cousin back in 1999.

He faced two balls from me, first ball he hit for 6 straight down the ground, second ball I took out his middle stump lol.

I also played against Michael Slater's cousin, he was a hack off spin bowler. Spanked him for 4 fours in one over lol.
