Season in review

We played the whole season without halves and the worst 3/4 line in the competition.

Pass mark for effort, reasonable pass mark for coaching given the roster, pass mark for bringing in unproven players

Overall, disappointing but unfortunately understandable given the playing staff

My sentiments exactly. Except I`d give them more than a pass for effort. I think the players tried their guts out all year.

Yep we sure did - the structures.

Oh yes of course; the structures. Yes. Where are they? Out the back of the grandstand or something? Are they big? I`d like to see them. Have you seen them? I don`t live in Parramatta anymore so I can`t see them.

Yeah, but did we build anything?

lots of things:
- new structured approach to our attack and defence (and more discipline as a result)
- blooded plenty of young kids who will be better for the experience
- Kearney and crew managed to get the most out of several players which bodes well for the future
- We were competitive in many, many games and lacked a halves pairing that could make the most of the foundation set by the forwards - problem solved in 2012.
- With the Academy set up, we will begin to target the cream of our junior rep teams, coaching them along the same lines as the NRL side, making their integration into the side easier.
ETC.

We took the tough decisions this year, released a bunch of players, gave kids an extended run in the team, stuck to a system that will work in the long run (with more practice and better players), and it is slowly bearing fruit.

To label this season as our worst since 1995 is an utter joke and completely untrue. We are in a stronger position heading into 2012 than we ever were heading into 2000, 2005 and 2009.

:sarcasm: Compared to any period following the Brian Smith era, we had a very clear structure and we stuck to it for the season. Defence was a problem until the backs got used to the compressed sliding defence (and will be much better when we get the Tonga brothers). In attack, the flat attack was hampered by not having elite halves, but there were a few nice backline movements on the few occiasions the halves executed their plays correctly.

To try and make out that kearney and the Eels have not implemented new playing structures (and attitude structures) is being naive, ignorant, or unessessarily negative.

Um .... I was just kidding. I agree with you on most of that. The bottom line for me is that we had the worst halves pairing in the comp (for the second year in a row) and a very average backline. With that scenario we should have been flogged every week. But we weren`t. In fact we were quite competitive in many games against better opposition. I suppose you would then have to say that: a.) the players` attitude and effort was exceptional and b.) the coaching staff did a very good job.

Once again, I was just kidding. I was having a joke with Maroubra Eel - because he`s a fairly jovial fellow and can take a joke. That`s not to say that you can`t take a joke (just that you didn`t recognise one when it was there before your eyes, but anyway). Well, anyway, I agree with you. Let`s see what Kearney can do with a better backline.

Cool - no dramas. Sorry if I came accross as too dramatic. Not aiming my comments at you, more the people who are whinging and moaning about specific things. Looking forward to 2012, and happy to be looking forward to it for definable reasons, not just the hope that somehow we will do better.

I agree.

I think season 2012 will also be the last in the blue and gold for many players, and there will be a huge turnover for 2013.

I hope you`re right - I think you probably are. This club has lurched and stumbled along without any apparent purpose for way too long.
