Gleeson is banned 4 months and fined £7,500 plus £1,250 costs and Long is banned for 3 months with the same fine.

Gleeson will be available for selection on the day AFTER the Grand Final, so its goodbye to him until next February

Long will return, if fit enough, for about the final game of the regular season. Is that enough time to get him fit and on form enough to play in the Tri-Nations? If Saints should fall to 5th or 6th during their bans and fall at the first hurdle in the play offs I can't see how GB could justify picking him.

One the one hand they were stupid, but my own personal conspiracy theory is that the RFL are STILL looking for retribution for not being able to punish Millward for the Bradford debacle. EVERY decision involving Saints has been harshly dealt with since that day TWO YEARS ago, and enhanced after the most recent one.

Oh dear St Helens!!
Its long enough ban, just I think it will send out the message to others not to be so bloody stupid.
Unfortunatly I can see a number of Saints supporters taking a different view to it to be honest and hanging onto the belief that they are both being made scapegoats .
And why is it Gleeson got 4 months, and Long only 3, is it something to do with him having played against Bradford in the game he put the bet on?

Anybody want a bet that, when things have quietened down, the fine and the ban will be both reduced on appeal with part of each suspended?

I hope they do appeal and get a shorter sentence, imo it was far to harsh.

AS it is I would still consider both for the tri nations, after a long gruelling year most players will have injuries and plenty of bumps and bruises, both players will be fresh and ready to go.
