This is bizarre. Obviously just a mixing desk tape, but very impressive technology. And it beats smuggling a minidisk down your pants to only discover that the mic was turned off.

DKT-MC5 will become the first band in Australia to offer a complete live album from their show, five minutes after the gig. The technology has been used in the US on The Pixies tour with great success. At one show, CDs sold to around 50 percent of the fans who came to the gig.

Five-hundred copies of each show will be burnt to CD straight from the mixing desk, complete with exclusive artwork and a set list from the show. According to promoter John Denison: "It has become obvious that fans are seeking as much unique merchandise product from their favourite bands as possible - this exciting technology allows the consumer to now not only enjoy the live experience but also take the performance home with them on a personalized CD. In unique cases such as the one off reformation of the surviving members of the MC5, the CD takes in more exciting proportions as the recording definitely becomes a collectors item - we have also taken the experience further by ensuring that the bands members are available to sign the limited edition CDs at the concert."

Is that because the vox have to be turned up due to them getting drowned out by the band during live shows?

Yep.

It's not always easy to sing perfectly on stage due to playing guitar, performing, etc and with the vocals mixed high it becomes glaringly obvious when singers miss notes.

In the general concert sound they get away with it because of the volume of the music.

More like so they could rape all their fans for what they're worth. Releasing a plethora of 'official' bootlegs, hardly varying and selling them at $30 a cd was ridiculous. Bloody Peral Jam!
