Thanks.
At heart we agree on how the team is shaping up.
The performance haven't been great but they have shown two things that have been missing for some time - spark and grit. I put that mostly down to Cleary.
In a sense we are missing them... if we had all of them available ontop of our current roster, we would not see the likes of Wes Naiqama, David Simmons and Cameron Ciraldo being picked.
1. Michael Gordon
2. Josh Mansour
3. Michael Jennings
4. Dean Whare
5. Brad Tighe
6. Tom Humble
7. Blake Austin
8. Sam McKendry
9. Kevin Kingston
10. Nigel Plum
11. Sika Manu
12. Lewis Brown
13. Luke Lewis
14. Adam Docker
15. Tim Grant
16. James Segayaro
17. Clint Newton
That team looks about a thousand times better then what we are running out with this weekend. So in that sense, yes we are missing them. Like most other fans, Michael Gordon is the one that I miss most. Bringing him back alone would get rid of two big weaknesses... Whare playing at fullback, and Wes at centre.
The way I see it we are missing them more because of the blokes who are being picked, then what they offer the team... and honestly I think we have better blokes available then those being picked. It's just a matter of the coach making a decision to drop them. Bring in the likes of Matt Moylan, Travis Robinson, Matt Robinson etc. and suddenly the team looks a lot better across the park. At the moment we are carrying too many fringe first graders that should be looking at retirement.

Jenko has shown what he can do with a couple of class players around him feeding him the ball in the halves
Jenko wouldn't have had that here because of his stupid contract which wouldn't allow us to go get a halfback capable of giving him that service.
He had the option to restructure his contract...he didn't want to do it.
Your kidding yourselves if your saying you don't miss these 3 players.
Lewis is a world class backrower who is a regular for NSW and AUS.
Jenko has shown what he can do with a couple of class players around him feeding him the ball in the halves and Gordon well he was always good and just showing that at sharks.
Replacing guys like this with Manu,Wes and Whare is 3 steps backwards.
If we kept all those guys, imo we wouldn't have been able to sign Sika Manu, Lewis Brown, James Segeyaro, Dean Whare if we didn't let them go.
We might have been able to get 1 or 2 but definitely not Sika Manu or Lewis Brown who imo are essential to what we are doing going forward.
Like I said but...if we were able to keep Gordon we'd look like a much better balanced team imo. That's the one big regret I have. Lewis and Jennings...take or leave.
We weren't able to buy the other young players we did until after Lewis. We would have had no depth..that we bought after Lewis - Sam Anderson, Kyle O'Donnell, Pangai, James Roberts, Jeremy Latimore, Mose Masoe, Anthony Cherrington etc...all after Lewis.
Jenko was released to make a play for Thurston...would we rather not go for a Halfback...and just stick to something that wasn't working for the last 3-4 years?
James Roberts is part of the NYC cap. Lewis was on the books for $150k so we didn't really gain much from losing him. Masoe and Latimore are the only 2 part of the FT squad. They would of been swaps using Armit and Siejka's money.
As for Jennings. We will see in a year of so if the fire sale of him and the payout was worth it. If we front end some payments and strengthen the squad then it was a good call.
We are no worse or no better off yet. too early to tell
Agreed. But Culture wise I think we are better off and we are in a better position cap wise.
I agree on the Jennings piece.
I just hope we get a good halfback out of it...or if not that the rest of the roster improves.
