Any collectors?

I just checked a packet - pretty impressive.

I remember back in the day when you got the Stanlen's powder coated chewing gum with your packet that was wrapped in paper. Good times.

Yes I do remember the Scanlens cards and the stickers that followed in the early 80's where we first saw the foil stickers.

Gees, that old chewing gum was awful. You would be better off chewing on the footy cards than that stuff!

The gum was good but it lasted about 3 chews before it went rock hard and lost flavour

Who could forget Scanlens being replaced by the sticker album (Panini i think). Or the captions under each player:

Michael Bolt - Dependable Rake

Or being 10 years old and trying to line up the 2 stickers on whichever player was each team's 2 sticker player

I'll never forget losing my Joe Squadrito and Royce Ayliffe cards

The other thing I remember with the scanlen cards was the weird pictures they would have for some players, like a guy sitting on the floor in the change room, and it would sometimes have funny captions instead of giving stats. It was another era...

Scanlens - my bad.

The chewy they will confirm in 2045 cures cancer - bring it back! Loved it for all three chews! :lol:Yeah the picutres were random occasionally, they were gold. I have the full 94 and 95 set. I don't remember which set it was, though I got two signed Gold cards - one of Steve Walters, one of Ricky Stuart.

I used to collect and swap cards in the playground. Those Scanlens cards helped me develop my taste for Rugby League as a young kid in the late 80's and early 90's. I wasn't crazy about the taste of the gum though.

See, that's why the telegraph cards are stupid. Everyone gets the same cards so there is no swapping, just collecting. That won't be half as fun as trading with your mates at school.

Spot on!

We played a card flicking game - stand 5m back from the wall, closest to the wall wins, winner keeps both cards. Dog eared some of the cards, but it was a lot of fun I remember (not so much when I lost!).

"Farries" and "Walls" were our games in the day.

Farries was all about flicking it as far as possible, as the name suggests.

Walls involved two players holding their cards at the same height on a wall (usually at School) and if one landed on top of the other the owner of that card kept both cards.

Something tells me that in this day and age there'd be a fight or something if one kid won another kid's cards from him.

If you close your eyes you can still easily remember the smell and the taste of that gum .. those were the days.

I wasn't even heavily into rugby league as a kid, but loved collecting and swapping the cards. Still have my collections all between about 1988 and 1991. My brother had some from the late 70's, wonder where they got to ..

I remember having Brad Mackay.

I also remember having a complete set of Jurassic Park movie cards, and when you put them all together face down on the ground it made a massive Jurassic Park logo.

f**k I love jurassic Park.
