in the past few weeks there have been a few send offs

some of them in my opinion didnt actually warant a send off

even yesterday in the parra game that shouldnt have been a send off

why dont they use the video reff in these situations

say only if the video ref agrees then we have a send off

sometimes in the heat of the moment the guys get it wrong and watching 12 against 13 or worse lessens the spectacle of the game

I agree the situation needs to be looked at. Yesterday it was a good tackle by Peek around the shoulders. It should've only copped a penalty for being late, not a send off.

The problem with bringing the video ref into it is its a very touchy area in the game at the moment. If a player stays down the video refer has a look but if he gets back up the video ref doesn't. I personally think the video referee shouldn't rule on anything other than try decisions as if we continue on our current path we are only going to end up like soccer with players taking dives left, right and centre.

i am suggesting only after the referee has made a decision to send someone off - no other situation - should the video reff be consulted

surely this is as important an issue as a try

I think we're putting too much emphasis on the video referee these days. We have no faith in the referee's anymore and they have no faith in themselves. Bill Harrigan is the only one who backs himself, the others will go to the video referee for the most trivial of reasons.
Watch a union game sometime (I know its bloody hard to do) and you will see how often their referees go up top. 90% of the time they'll back themselves to make the call.

If we start getting video referees to check on send offs as well as being in the referees ear all game, checking high tackles and ruling on tries then whats next?

tries and send offs mean a break in play

and both are extremely important events in the game

actually a send off sometimes is more important than a try

i am not suggesting any other interference other than when a reff decides to send someone off

I agree with you Millers, before someone gets sent off there is a break in play, usually for the ref to talk to the player/consult with his touchies. All the ref has to do is bring the video ref into the consultation process. Then you would have the right decisions made more of the time.
