Serbian coach apparently (from read reports on net) decided that an Irish player that had acooped up a loose ball and taking off needed a fist to stop him. Feisty game with a num ber sin binned.

Like Dakink only read reports on-line regarding the incident.

Certainly a black eye for the sport .... but lets hope it is the individual/s singled out for disciplinary action and the game itself in Serbia is not setback through removal of the national team from competitions / Internationals ( as some are calling for).

Shame as was genuinely interested in how Serbia were to perform in this game.

Serbian Facebook

The result is that the coach of the national team rushed to the field and hit the Irish players in the counterattack. Then he broke out a complete fight and after the Irish left the field. Mostly we were until then smashed, but we won so we have dropped jerks. And then all the prejudices that foreigners have for us ispadose fully justified due to a couple of jerks

Sorry for being so vague in my initial post, just wanted to check if my eyes were playing tricks on me or not and see if others saw what I was seeing.

So, as I'm sure most know by now, the Irish player made a break and was surely bound to score, out of nowhere, the Serbian coach (who seemed to already be in the field of play) appears out of nowhere and collides with him (hard to tell whether it was a fist, elbow or shoulder), whatever the contact was, it was enough to knock out the Irish player who did not move for about a minute after. (I initially thought it was a trainer scrambling to get out of the way, but then realised it was the coach (!!!!!!!). The fact he was knocked out cold too, surely means it was no accident). He then tried running back to the bench but as you can imagine, the enraged Irish players grabbed him and started exchanging punches, then from there was an all-in brawl. Once the teams were separated, the Irish boys walked off and went to the sheds. So, the ref, had no choice but to abandon the match.

...and this was his pre-match quote:
Serbian coach Marko Janković is relishing the opportunity. "We are fortunate to get a chance to host such a big opponent in the wake of European championship B finale. It will be a massive test for us and we are hoping for a big crowd. Getting Ireland to come to Belgrade is a confirmation of our hard work and progress that we have made."

I think the coach was also the water runner.

In any case, he has been sacked.

You can't really blame the Irish boys for reacting how they did. It would have taken some extremely cool heads to just watch it happen and stay calm.

Exactly, they'd already had 3 players sin-binned for minor infringements, then this happened, it must have felt like a complete ambush by then.
