Dragons SG Ball Notes (4-50 Loss):
  • Couple of good strong early runs from CST (13) & Smythe (8) and then the new fullback Taj Jelacic (replacing Kirk who has struggled) had a nice little run close to the line to leave a few defenders in his wake.. 4-0.
  • There is a new prop too (massive unit with long hair) called Tohovaka.. has a bit of toe too, not sure about his motor... this is exciting except I realise he has replaced Futialo one of our better young props.. who I think maybe had a HIA last week.. cant quite recall.
  • Jelacic again threatening, gonna keep an eye on this one
  • We have been winning the contest but Mardini lost the ball in a hit-up.. it was raked out but they cant review it.. means nothing anyway.. Wests score in the corner 4-6.
  • Kouka the #9 with a shoulder charge.. on report.. off the back of that as we defended our line.. for some reason Jelacic (fullback) was on the very blind side.. and they just hoiked a kick up and the centre Okusitino was left alone to catch a bomb on his line which he complete muffed and noone else was there to help.. terrible way to let in points 4-10.
  • Next set their halfback who had good pace went straight between 2 defenders and somehow carried the 12 over to score.. i dont know whats going on here. 4-14.
  • 2on2, that nippy tigers 7 Mardini maybe scared Mardini, but his inside centre covered him.. and Mardini left his winger completely on his own.. and he scores untouched in the corner 18-4 ffs.. 3mins to half time.
  • so.. on next set Jelacic catches his bomb.. 2 tigers players have hands on him and strip the ball.. run away and score.. somehow from 4-0 its now 4-24 at half time..
  • 2nd half and were barrelling down field (very high energy start to the half from us), 20m run from Smythe, but as hes on the ground the tigers knock the ball out in the tackle.. judges lost ball.. and u know how this goes.. from the next set.. we have 5 defenders on their 3.. and our centre #3 muffs it.. leaves 2 blokes his winger.. and their centre just flies thru untouched again.. we managed to stop it but they just fling it to the other side and razzle dazzle about 5 of our defenders.. that was a rly good try.. 4-28. I really dont want to watch any more.. but here we are... still 27mins to go.
  • Okusutino #4 on report for lifting a player.. noone drove though so hopefully not a suspension.
  • Barge over try thru the middle.. wests 4-34.
  • We are making heaps of errors lately.. Wests go over but its called obstruction.. have seen the centre Cayuqueo #3 been burnt numerous times.. left flailing whether he makes contact or not in defence... its causing a real problem for that edge.. not sure if wests are just that good.. but I think we will need to change the centre next week, but this is the 2nd one.. Hale already moved out.. its annoying because we have Tomo sitting as 18th man each week in the Steelers system needing game time...
  • Anyway.. next set they cut thru with a lovely run, 1 badly missed tackle..4-40.
  • So Jalaecic.. looks great running in attack, he looks like a proper fullback.... but my god the defensive positioning, basic errors, the strip.. I mean its not even close to this standard unfortunately this is the reason Kirk isnt here.. great attack no D.. I dont know what Dragons r gonna do here.. couple of positions are a real problem for them.
  • We defended a set 'just'.. but next set they spread it and go over no problems, were a beaten team obviously.. 4-46.
  • Mardini drops it cold off a 20-m restart.. another player that has been really dissapointing today.. these guys are not up to this standard.. off the back they are fighting with themselves who gets to get the ball and fall over the line.. one does from dummy half 4-50 final score.
  • Im not sure where they can go from here.. they are in a lot of games but missing class in so many positions.. unless there are others in their systems I think theyre just gonna have to train well and do their best..really only CST is standing out, Smythe decent too, Nachar goes ok but for a 2nd year player he should.. Okustino normally good but nothing rly happened today.. thats it though for the whole squad.. bugger.

Dragons HM Notes (18-32 Loss):
  • Note that there is a 2nd Ah Kee brother, this 2nd one playing hooker.
  • Raiders making a few silly mistakes early but also pushing us hard when they had the ball, we defended really well to hold them.. but eventually a big run from their prop got it down next to the upright... 0-6.
  • When we got out chance after 10 minutes.. Jones #7 put a lovely kick into the ingoal for Jack Lambert #2 to easily pick up and score.. then converted his own kick quite nicely for a 6-6.
  • Lovely run from Pauga #5, little step and ran 10m.. got the offload but Rawson dropped it cold.. I think thats his 2nd error already actually.. not going great.
  • Raiders had a set on our line from a scrum.. took me 6 replays to work out what had happened... the winger Pauga has rushed in to take out a ball carrier and left his man unmarked to score.. we plenty of defenders.. I cant fathom why he did that. 6-10.
  • Thought we were in but a long ball from Field to Pauga was judged forward.. shame he was unmarked too..
  • Bit of back and forth but the Raiders fullback showed lovely pace to leave his defender and then the fullback Field in his wake.. thru untouched 6-16. Half-Time.
  • Afvter half time.. and some razzle dazzle from big strong tall backs.. and about 6 passes and eventually they go through us 6-20.
  • Defelction off our legs.. their 7 picks it back up and scores.. 6-26.. tough day in the office watching this...
  • Big tall raiders 2nd rower at the last second puts a dont argue elbow fend on Mardinis mouth #14 and sends him flying in the air.. rly hate that there are no rules about attacking players elbows... wonder if he lost teeth.
  • Field our fullback drops a sitter.. didnt even need to jump.. ball spills out and a raider carries blokes over the line with it.. farrkkk. 32-6.
  • Finally some attacking ball, Jones to Field to a running Tamaseu.. easy try.. 12-32.
  • For all the wraps on ah Ah Kee (hes good), few loose passes, that 1 going over the players head... leading to an intercept which has completely changed the momentum. We defend it then Phoneix Johns doesnt put his foot on the ball and were penalised, my lord. THen next set.. we get a penalty for a strip thankfully.. then.. we dont find touch.. hollleeee.
  • Finally after 5 straight infringements we march up field.. down the shirt side Ah Kee sets up a nice easy try for his winger Pauga. 18-32.
  • Definitely not as bad as a result as the SG side, there is talent in this line-up.. Ah Kee #6, Kavana #13, still a maybe for me on Talbert, Johns, Pauga, need to see more of them.. but ultimately the raiders just seem physically much bigger than us.. just carrying us at times.. combined with all the silly errors.. not a game we could win.

Thanks Rev. I missed game today. Blow out scoreline. Sad to say but there is a chasm between our '24 premiership winning side and this rabble. Their commitment, middle defense and mistake rate is embarrassing.

What is trick to activate try replays on Bar?

Summary of Steelers HM Highlights 22-16 Win:
  • First Warriors try CMeafou should have stopped his opponent earlier.. but I think it was a pretty clear double movement too.. but is what it is 0-6.
  • Our first try off the back off a brave carry from a line dropout by #8 Scofield, then #10 Andrews.. then Brookfield puts it onto Ollie Burton who does a spin and gets through 2 tackles to score.. CMeafou's decoy gave him some space.. but if im honest..that decoy also took out the #9 Warrior who was probably 2m away but it deny him any chance to get a hand on Ollie.. no complaints from the warriors though. 6-6.
  • Our 2nd try was just a conventional backline movement..9 > 7 > 1 > 6 Humphries who puts a nice grubber through for 5 Goulder to score.. couple of nice decoy runs in there too... the warriors big winger was just too slow to turn around. 10-6.
  • Warriors 2nd try was a long range special.. the warriors massive Kikau Lookalike #12 basically runs 60m palming or swatting off anyone in his way.. 10-10
  • Warriors 3rd try was just a nicely executed crash play for a big prop next to the posts 10-16.
  • Steelers 3rd try started out as a nothing play 7 to 6 to 11 and CMeafou just puts a grubber through (as second rowers do) and 5 Goulder gets his 2nd.. tbh there was luck involved with the bounce of the ball.. Goulder had 2 warriors either side of him.. but he put it down clean. 16-16.
  • 10mins left and we get a penalty in front.. 18-16 up.
  • Steelers 4th try was just a lovely double pump from Brookfield the halfback, and send the pass to his Winger Ballinger in the corner, game over.. 22-16. Everyone looks pretty cool calm and collected, Creighton is exchanging some final words to the warriors team which I assume he has had a running battle with.
That warriors HM side had some big boys.. and were actually unbeaten before today (we are 3from3 now).. that is impressive..

Thanks Rev. Looking forward to the SG report. Your fav Daniel Meafou back in the line up and getting the job done without Reed is huge.

HM to get wins on back to back road trips to Canberra and NZ is hugely impressive. Hopefully they can ride the momentum for the rest of the season.

Steelers SG Ball Notes (28-26 Win):
  • Played in NZ.. against a Warriors side yet to win a game (bit like our Dragons side) but without our Captain and Halfback Reed who played in the Charity Shield.. we cant afford to drop this game.. we need to make sure we make finals with this squad.
  • 3 Inclusions in DMeafou (last years captain) who has had a serious injury for nrly 12 months.. coming off the bench & Langdon as a 2nd rower whos also been injured. Still no Weatherall to be seen. Mason Phillips the hooker is also back from his HIA.
  • Warriors first try.. Ive watched it 6 times I cant really say whos at fault, good footwork and passing, and they went through half a dozen defenders over about 50m. 0-6.
  • So this is where its interesting.. off the dropout from the try.. Fitzy (who has a big boot and some trick shots), he kicks the dropout high into I assume some breeze and lands on the ground 25m in front of him.. and Timmins gets there, leaps and takes it.. and were on the attack and we score immediately..
  • This try confuses me.. Phillips passes it to the #8 Jackson Smith who is standing there calling for the ball as if hes a halfback.. he gets it onto the actual halfback Baldock, Langdon runs a decoy and a nice simple backline movement onto Heidke then Saifiti in the corner.. simple and well executed. Reed is away so Kirk is goalkicking, the bugger nails it from the sideline.. like he sliced it and it faded.. and im not sure if it was on purpose but 6-6!
  • This is a high scoring game.. Warriors back on the attack minutes later.. its a 2on1 on Kirk basically, but he has a very clean shot at banging the winger into touch, and the warrior kind of just shoulder charges and goes under him.. bit soft.. 6-10.
  • Few minutes later they r on our line again.. we hold them up once but their prop just torpedos under us for a crash try under the sticks.. 16-6.. this is not like the normal steelers side.. they arent defending like they have been.. not fully in the contest... only 14mins into the game.. so warriors going more than a point per minute. Were giving away a lot of penalties too.. piggybacking them down field into attacking zones.
  • They put up a bomb on our line.. their bloke I think knocks it on.. but its called backwards, and because Timmo/Kirk/Borg are all there trying to catch it, there is noone out wide to stop the ensuing try.. hot damn 20-6, 16mins in.
  • Back on our line again 20mins in.. this time the pass is called forward.. geez. We have a good set though, I can see DMeafou is on finally in #20, he snags the opposition catcher on their own tryline.. so finally some field position.. we step up in defence finally.. force an error and were attacking them 21mins in.. DMeafou is noticeably more solid than the others.. nice bashing run carrying a few tacklers..
  • Few tackles later, Mason Phillips just goes himself and spins his way in to score near the sticks.. really needed that.. 12-20.
  • We make the error and theyre back on our line AGAIN.. thankfully Heidke forces an error, Saifitii gets us 15m off our line with a huge carry (I thought it was a prop), and we give it back to them on their line. Richter and Karaitani carry a defender and slam him down forcing an error and were attacking again.
  • Off the scrum, Phillips to Fitz to Borg who chimes in to add the number and boom pass to Kirk who runs 20m to score in the corner.. for all that warriors point scoring, we are back to 16-20... this goalkick doesnt even make the posts.
  • Both sides went end to end for the last few minutes before halftime, we actually had a collision trying to catch a ball that handed them a try on half time, but thankfully they dropped it.. very lucky.. 16-20 Half Time.
  • More end to end in the 2nd half.. we scrambled well with Saifiti and Borg to close down 1 try.. then they almost scored on the other edge but the ball went forward and dropped.. I cant tell you we are quite lucky to still be in this game..this kept happening dumb errors from both sides..
  • Finally after 52mins we get a penalty and Parker from dummy half puts the bakk onto the standin halfback in Baldock who uses some footwork and easily bamboozles his tired defender.. goes over 20-22 with a nice goalkick from Kirk.
  • 62min mark and the warriors 6 puts on some footwork that leaves Phillips but mostly the big prop Jackson dead.. goes thru next to the posts 22-26, 5mins left.
  • 3mins left.. they take a penalty from in front.. and.. it bounces off the upright and into play! Still 22-26. But we start our set 10m from our line... ok set we get to 40m out from their line... and on the last, Fityz puts up one from his floating bombs, right in the belly of the ball lands perfect, the winger can barely even get a hand on it.. bounces into the ingoal and Heidke is on the spot to grab his try about 5m out from the posts... with 2mins left! Boys are losing their sh** lol.. 26-26.. Kirk with the pressure kick.. hits it sweet, 28-26 on the 70min mark.. they get a short kick off but its out on the full.. Timmo has 1 last run and its game over.. absolutely pulled out of the fire, Warriors must be heart-broken.
  • Desperately needed that win, whether we were the better team I dont know, but it keeps us in the contest for finals, hopefully Reed & Weatherall back next week.. I didnt see any injuries but I mean who knows.. what a great way to go to NZ and get 2 close wins in both grades, well done boys!
  • Couple of player comments.. DMeafou did huge minutes in his return.. like maybe 60mins.. slow and steady looked good for someone who hasnt run in a long time.. will get better.. also a level head.. Saifiti is such an interesting winger, fast and stronger than an ox.. he just has a loose carry in him which he has to fix.... if he does hes a JF winger for sure. wowee!

Also - meafou was absolutely terrible for the Steelers! Hoping it’s just Rudy but they may as well of been playing with 12, hiding behind the play the ball, running to defend on the short side, not defending in the line, it was really bad

Think Weatherall is just injured, and if you mean DMeafou... it was his first hit out after nrly 12mths leg injury, I thought he looked pretty good doing 60mins.
