just hearing on the radio that a couple of European clubs are looking at him.

he wasnt very good in Europe early on... but i reckon hes a different player now.

it makes me laugh that Chris Killen plays for Celtic... and Smeltz is in the A-League when imo Smeltz is miles better than Killen.

you guys reckon he could make it in Europe??

I would have thought he would be pretty handy at Championship level in England, but he was not that successful in his previous stint in the English lower leagues.

His last stint was at Halifax Town where he played 31 games for just two goals.

Killen was pretty lucky to get offered a contract with Celtic. IIRC, he scored a sh*tload of goals for Hibs and managed to pick up a contract with them which says a lot about the SPL when he was a flop at Oldham Athletic.

Shane Smeltz is definitely a better player now than what he was 5-6 years ago.

There's no reason why he cant have a career in europe. Rather than look to the UK, he should look towards the continent, in one of the second tier leagues their, ie dutch belgian etc. I'm sure he is good enough to play there, it would offer first team football and the chance to play in europa/champions league. The header he scored against sydney was class

I could see him playing first team Football in Eastern Europe. Czech, Serbia etc. I can't see GCU releasing him, though.

It is hard to imagine that Smeltz was off contract and without a footballing future before the friendly against Wales in 2007. Since then he has scored 44 goals in 58 games for club and country. That is some strike rate!

Sorry to any Celtic supporters but Smeltz looks a mile better player than Scott Macdonald when he plays for Australia(and he seems to be doing ok for himself in Scotland).
If Smeltz went to a club that suits his style cant see why he cant reproduce the form in Europe.
Like all strikers he just needs the breaks.
