Shark v panther pre official anything thread

Yep, it is good for us, but missing a game for that is a joke.

Absolutely. Eye gouging is OK, kicking a player in the head and shoulder charges seem ok too now, but Maloney out for that.

Apples and oranges. Putting aside comparisons of dangerous, effectiveness, intentional etc . it was a trip. The Game is about running and tackling, not tripping.. I suspect that if certain people thought they had chance to get away with tripping, they would add it to their defensive strategies even if only as a last resort. A certain purple wrestling mob comes to mind. Maloney had to be suspended IMHO

Agree.

However, knocking people senseless is also supposed to be illegal...

Correct.
Burgess had to be suspended as well though, thats the issue.

Agree completely with the underlined . But comparing and contrasting the two just muddies the water on both. If you are saying NRL judiciary suspended Maloney only because it might keep sharks from complaining about Burgess that should be in the discussion about Why Burgess was let off not in debate about maloneys suspention. For the record I was hoping Maloney and Moylan would both be playing. Maloneys own problem that hes not.

Incorrect. A play like that 9 times out of ten is reflex action, is not dangerous & has no lingering effects other than the potential outcome of the game. It is a professional foul.
It took the judiciary 10 minutes to convict maloney & that is after hearing testimony from 2 sides.
It would take the bunker 20 seconds to rule on a trip, definitevely.
So who is punished by suspending Maloney? The penrith fans mostly, but most league fans as well.
Maloneys trip should have been pulled up & bunker reviewed. He should have got maybe ten in the bin but definitely penalised. Match review should have fined him $2-$5 grand(punish the player, not the fans).

Agree but wasn’t he unable to be fined as he’s been charged already this year!
That is not the fans problem. That is the fault in the system.
For careless errors, the fans should not be punished. Punish the player with money, that hurts them way more, than having a week off.

I would suggest a pissy little fine doesn’t hurt Maloney or other high profile players.

A $2k fine for a state of origin player is not equivalent to a $2k fine for a rookie.

It should be a % of contract, then it might balance out for missing a week.

Relieved that Maloney is out.

He was the only player who could’ve got the Panthers over the line in this one.

Ironically the two players involved in the player swap Moylan & Maloney both won’t be involved for this one.

Yeh, he hasn’t gone that well against us but has the potential to get the Panthers home, as he did for us & others in crucial games.

Him being out is a bit of luck for us! We are due for some!

Agree. As much as I don’t think there was much harm in what Maloney did & it was a reflex action, yes, he deliberately tripped him.

1 week fair.
0 weeks for Burgess totally not fair.

You'd be surprised how much the fines actually hurt them. Especially the likes of the Maloneys.

"Its a professional Foul" Like I said before the information before that is irrelevant even though probably true enough. Its the tenth time that needs to be stamped out . With referee influencing hookers in the Game these days to present the first information in the face of the referee if such a thing occurs .... Like I said it would become a last resort option for players ,coaches willing to push rules to the very limit to prevent a certain try and win maybe even a grand final. I agree about 10 in the bin for it Just not sure if that would be enough to deter a player trying to stop a certain try. The suspension sends the message to Players and coaches.

The suspension does nothing. Same way it doesnt stop high shots.
The risk of losing a player for 10 minutes & a monetary fine is far higher than any suspenion will accomplish.
Even Burgess tackle IMO had no malice towards Moyzas head. It had Malice but it was carelss & caused damage. Fine him 15% of contract. Put it towards brain studies research. Let the player play & dont punish the fans.
If the judiciary cannot get the little ones right, like incedental trips or pushes, then they have no hope of getting the big decisions correct.

It's a joke, I just can't see how Maloney gets a week for that and Burgess only gets a fine for whacking Moyza in the head.

This is exactly what came out of my mouth when I heard the news. Maloney's vs Burgess (whom I love by the way, old school, 80's player born late) was a ridiculous charge : punishment ratio.

Nrl is going great.

What out to Penrith? Out to that shit hole? No thanks.

I'll watch it from the comfort of my living room with the sound on mute so I don't have to listen to the Channel Nine merkins. I'll be having a Southern Comfort and coke and trying to converse with our Japanese exchange student who doesn't speak much English unfortunately.

I'll be introducing him to the mighty Sharks and we're giving him a members pack full of Sharks gear.

Wow what a life , We out in the shit hole can only dream of partaking in luxury’s like that !
