We've lost 8 of the past 9 Preliminary final games. That means 8 more GF's we could have been in.

They all hurt especially because in a lot of the games the team we lost to lost the GF.

But the ones that really hurt are 88' & 99'.

To be the best team through the regular season and not at even make the GF is tragic.

i can find a reason for nerly every one of those finals.
There were very few that we actually had a realistic chance of winning the GF
88 was our worst fail ever. Next was 95 loss to Newcastle.
All the others we were no chance. 73 close but not good enough. 78 rorted by Hartley.
99 no way were going to beat the double salary cap Dragons with unlimited interchange & the no salary cap Storm.
2008 Storm were 1.5 million over cap & Eagles were juiced up by Dank.
2001 we should have played Newcastle in GF not the Prelim but the dumb system wrecked that. parra had Jason f**king Talyor as half back.!!

Fair call that one. Out of all the other teams in the finals series that year, it was the Sharks I feared playing the most. In a year of blow-out scores (including a 49-30 loss at Toyota Park the previous month) the Sharks were like last years' Cowboys team- they had elusive players like Campbell, Peach and Rogers in the backs and then guys like Stevo, Lang and Treister up front who could put in the hard yards.

That preliminary final was a real heart- pounder, the relief I felt when Ben Kennedy crashed over to seal it was crazy. As good as Parra were, I never felt the same anxiety about them in the week leading up to the GF that I had about the Sharks the week previous...
