It's hard to feel any other way about it.For a bloke that doesn’t like to be negative, you are doing an excellent job !!
Just a question from me, from someone who has never played at a high level, who/ which role is the most responsible in the playing team for the speed of the defensive line? It’s incredible how important line speed is and it’s incredible how quickly we stop moving up in a game at a moments notice, it’s usually at the moment the opposition challenges us that we lay down and start waiting for them to come to us. I think it’s the role of the forward leader, so who is our forward leader? We need to have a player who can recognise the moment and do something to stop it happening once it starts happening, because it happens in just about every game we play at some point and we rarely see it with Melbourne or Penrith.Line speed or kick chase and a long kicking game each week same shit but flanno hasn't changed it with dropping kyle .
We need a professional no 7 to lead the side both 2nd half game in 2 weeks no points scored.
Fitness and attitude.Just a question from me, from someone who has never played at a high level, who/ which role is the most responsible in the playing team for the speed of the defensive line? A realist would had come to that conclusion at the beginning of the season , it would not had made one any less of a Dragon supporter . But yes I had many doubts even then that the Big Red V would be in the finals quite simply as we did not possess the necessary players both in the forwards and the gifted halves whom had the ability to turn a game .Anybody who thinks that our squad is better than 14 other squads has no fxcking idea. It is a bottom 3 squad on paper at best, if not last. There is a reason we were chosen by nearly every expert to run last.......add in the loss of RCouch, FMolo, Eisenhuth, Sele, CT, Sua, Egan, Feargai, BMM, for prolonged periods and the fact that we have had to debut Egan, Stewart, LPT, Lawson, Tsougranis all before mid season. Plus, expect a young and inexperienced TCouch to be one of our main middles for all season thus far is a huge ask. I'm sure Flanno wishes he didnt have to expect so much, so early from TCouch, Hamish Stewart, Egan and LokoPT. We were already struggling for wingers and Feargai and CT who started on the wings, gave hardly played and Sloan really hasn't developed as a winger as hoped. Allan is coming back from a season out, plays well and then gets injured again. Lawson is still in his embryonic stage of Rugby League and NRL. Our halves by necessity have been Ilias, KFlann and LKT.....Ilias has surprisingly struggled, KFlann has tried his guts out but just isn't suited to being the main playmaker and he is hardly a kicker. LKT is showing exciting promise, but is in the embryonic stage of his career. So to summarise.....
+ we started with a roster that is probably 17th
+ lost FMolo, Eisenhuth, Sele and BMM from our middles rotation before a ball had been kicked. And then lost their replacement in Guler for a long suspension.
+ Lost RCouch in round 1 for the season
+ Lost ChristianT, Feargai and Allan from our wing stocks
+ Forced to debut 5 kids, 3 of them in the engine rooms.
+ Had to rely on kids TCouch, Egan, HamishS, LokoPT to become hardened NRL forwards, seconds after debuting.
+ Lost Egan for the season.
+ Required Suli and Sua to play busted for most of the early parts of the season.
+ had to be Steered around by an extremely inexperienced halves trio in KFlann, LKT and Ilias.
NOTE: It is hardly ideal to debut 5 kids in 15 rounds. It usually benefits you in coming season, but I can't remember any team ever having a successful season when they were forced to debut 5 players and there is talk of a couple more. I dont think there is a coach anywhere that could take this roster, deal with the lengthy losses of so many in that squad, debut 5 kids and succeed. I'm not one for excuses, but these are facts not excuses. Yet a fortnight ago, we sat in the 8, lost 3 games by a point (3 that we scored the same or more tries than the opposition). Had a positive for and against. We turned up for season 2025 in a mustard coloured Datsun 180B whilst our opposition arrived in silver Porsches, red Ferraris and black Lamborghini's. But before we arrived at the starting grid, our mustard Datsun 180B lost wheel and blew a head gasket.
All this and I haven't even mentioned the clangers from the officials that regularly fxck us. The short kick-offs clanger being the latest and the reaming we cop for 6 agains. They were 3 nil against the sharks and most games we get reamed by the 6 agains.
AgreeIts taken me until today to have a look at the forum. Too depressed, I guess.
So, without reading all the posts has anyone commented on Suli and his inability to jump and catch.
The guy turns his back on the kicks that come in his direction and wont or cant contest the ball??
Not sure if this is under some sort of bizarre instructions (to try to protect the winger ??? etc) but we are getting annihilated in the air (every week) and IMO he is a BIG part of the problem.
PS
I know we have plenty of other issue's as well, but I just wanted to throw this one out there
Definitely coached. I must admit it has worked for some games, roosters and dolphins absolutely exploited it, and braily used the extra space well for about 20 mins the other night until we fought back momentum.I suspect the team is coached to defend this way, which is incredible. We stand and wait so consistently I think it must be deliberate. It shits me to tears because we can actually hit pretty hard when we have some momentum - meaning forward motion - in our defence.
He is too hard headed to admit he is wrong. Excuse after excuse and he even praised Kyle for the pass to Debelin.. He was quick to give Illias a clip in the media and drop him but it's crickets when it comes to his son. Kyle can do no wrong it seems. It's ok though because apart from this forum the drums are beating loud. Read the comments on any Twitter or Facebook post from the dragons the last month. Some people just accept mediocracy it seemsI wonder if Flanno's regrets his comment about Hunt not being able to close out a game.
My Son, would have been more appropriate.
How embarrassing for him.
As far as I can see the only thing Suli offers is a big body but he seems to be very easily tackled. He doesn’t pass, has only average speed and acceleration and doesn’t contest to catch the kick. We have some very big boys running wide in attack but they seem to just go to ground when they hit the defensive line. They very rarely break a tackle, let alone make a line break.Agree
Who is then left to field the Bombs - Sloan
And the worst thing is that Sloan rarely see's any attacking opportunity outside Suli
Its lose, lose for Sloan
(Not advocating for Sloan - he does need to work on contesting Bombs - But Suli does little to assist)
I get the straight line strategy but it still needs to move forward. Standing still effectively yields momentum to the attack. It also stultifies lateral movement so it’s easier to capitalise on any gaps. It seems to me that we’ve been doing this for over a decade. Surely the coaching staff can see it isn’t working.Definitely coached. I must admit it has worked for some games, roosters and dolphins absolutely exploited it, and braily used the extra space well for about 20 mins the other night until we fought back momentum.
My guess is they do it to give themselves more space and time to make the read or react to what the attack is doing. Rushing up and trying to shut down the play is what melbourne used to do a couple years ago but if the scramble defence sucks then it doesn't work that well. Maybe the more experienced posters on here can make better sense of it.
Think back to early days with Hook his coaching style was to rush up and hit hard which was great early in the season until we were gassed out.
Did he really say his son would be more appropriate? That’s where he would have been wrong and showing poor judgement.I wonder if Flanno's regrets his comment about Hunt not being able to close out a game.

I'm glad you've thrown it out there mate and I totally agree....I'm pretty sure most on here have noticed Suli's lack of interest in competing for balls in the air.....now if it's supposedly to protect the winger and he's under instructions then it's obvious it ain't working most of the time....or if he's to scared to attempt it or disinterested to catch himself then thats another issue....whatever the reason it's just one of many many issues and predicaments that we find ourselves in week in week out.....and we wonder why we are where we are.....I guess best summed up it's just simply Dumb Dumb and DumbIts taken me until today to have a look at the forum.
