Sharks halves - no room for Noddy

I know I may be in the minority but I am a big fan of Kimmorley. He is a great halfback with great vision. I will say that he is struggling a little at the moment, actually since the bad pass in Origin, but he has a sensational kicking game and I believe that he can defend when it is called for.

Sorry if I have offended

You are actually in the majority!

If there was a poll conducted on this forum asking who is the more dominant half at our club. Kimmorley would win.

If the two were placed on the open market Kimmorley would have the biggest offers.

Hell, Souths didn't even want Dykes...........

Havent seen Tony Caine play but he must be going all right.
3 tries in Premier League on the weekend and then I read we were offered Luke Priddis and we knocked him back because we have the 2 first grade rakes(Kingston & Latu)plus the club has big wraps on Tony Caine so we dont need any more players in that position(hooker).
I can see Kearney getting a bench gig at least when Noddy comes back.
Prefer him at fullback myself.
Having said that Simmons had his best game in Sharks first grade side since he's been playing on Saturday night.(IMO). Got to have at least 1 good one in 50 I suppose.

Actually....where was Noddy? Was he at the game? In the coaches box? I did not see him at the preso.

What are you insinuating?

That he wouldn't attend the game if he wasn't playing?

He went to watch them play at Campbelltown last week FFS!

Even when he doesn't play there is sniping at his committment and loyalty.

I'm a huge tony caine fan after what Ive seen, but speaking to people who have been involved in his coaching and developement for many years, i believe the feeling is that mentally they feel he's another dozen or more PL games away from being ready to trackle firsts.

Keep you hair on. I was asking if anyone saw him - nothing more or nothing less.

I think a lot of people are forgetting how well Noddy played at the start of last year, before the dreaded SOO1.

He was on fire at the top of the Dally M’s and his all round game was outstanding (including kicking and passing deep). That fell apart under pressure in SOO1 and he reverted back to the old Ando style he was comfortable with. That style doesn’t work anymore it was proven in that game and every game he has played for us since, I think the problem isn’t that he can’t play deep but that he isn’t as comfortable with it and currently isn’t confidant enough to play that way.

The coaches must be held accountable in some part to this and if they had the guts he would be sent to PL to regain his confidence in playing a deeper game. Then the moment he deviates from the game plan he will be dropped again, he will soon learn his lessons. I think another point the coaches can be pulled up on is that I think he has been playing injured and it is obvious his longish (he has never had a really long kicking game) kicking has been very very short, either he should have been rested until better or forced to leave the long kicking to another player.

Why doesn't the coaching team earn their salaries and coach him to play a deeper game??

That's a very valid point Feej.

On the other hand, why doesn't someone with his obvious talent and football knowledge do a self evaluation!!

Two way problem me thinks.

He has to get over SOO1. Worse things have happened to other players and they've gotten on with the business of playing footy.

I was all for signing Noddy when we did but fugg me he's stretching the limits a bit. Dykes certainly had a very good game on Saturday and I think Noddy would do well to watch and learn - the modern day attack - not Andoball.

I'm sure they've tried, but when Noddy is under pressue he just falls back on his old ways.

IMO we DONT need BK! Was GOOD in his day but not GREAT! His last play options are that of an average U/15's player.

Kearney done his job but was not what i would call outstanding! At the start of the year i wanted nige at 5/8th but i can admit im wiping the egg off my face cause Dykes is playing some good footy! Id like to see Tony Caine get a start with Dykes. He is in form so why not bring him up?

Noddy is an outstanding player - not playing in great confidence since soo1 - in fact has been a shadow of his form.

But he tries his guts out almost every week - most of the other players want him there as well.

Dykes was very good the other night - the coaching staff need to work with both of them - get Noddy to adjust his style - and play on either side of the ruck. Would be very potent attacking pair - and both aren't defensive turnstiles.

I certainly don't want our highest paid player playing reserve grade - get him out there and get him and Dykesy directing us around the park

Who are these great football judges?
List them.

Where's your research on that statement?
- Coaching team at my club
- Fellow players
- Former players (professional and otherwise)
- Opposition players/coaches, etc
- Former coaches/trainers/managers of rep squads

Research? "The only people that I know." I don't know you nor much of the Shire. Yes, I was exaggerating, there are people older than 15 that believe in the Kimmorley myth of world class status...but the most heated arguments I get into in regards to Kimmorley tend to be with people who haven't played the game for 30 years or are supporters of the game only. Obviously people under 15 haven't learnt to read into the media, so when they hear every television commentator spout out the crap about Cronulla being nothing without Kimmorley they tend to agree with them.

The statements I made weren't directed at anybody other than those that I know personally. I can add some excellent forum judges to the list, but I don't know them any more than through this forum so I won't list them.

Kimmorley is past it by a long shot. I can't think of any first grade halfback from the top of my head that plays the same style as Kimmorley. Running to the line can be a good move occasionally for a halfback...it puts the opposition in two minds and opens up the option to make split second decisions when the opposition doesn't have time to think. However, it is only effective when done out of the blue with the defence on the back foot. If you run it every play like Kimmorley does, it has little effect other than the hospital pass which inevitably leaves his outside men with zero room to move. Kimmorley's style is suited only to certain occasions...it's a very effective surprise ploy to hit someone at the line whilst the defence is unsettled...a set defence moving forward completely nullifies everything Kimmorley does every single play.

Further, Kimmorley is far too structured...he is proactive in almost every move he makes, meaning if something changes in the defensive line, he'll make the same play anyway. E.g. winger rushes up in the line, he'll play his planned long ball = intercept. Plans to kick short behind the line, winger holds his position instead of dropping back = straight down the wingers throat.

I admire his dedication to the game and the effort he gives in each week. Dedication is vital in this sport, but his dedication and toughness is suited to a prop forward, not a halfback. As a halfback you have to be able to play what's in front of you as well as being a structured presence. You have to play with your outside players being your priority, you have to work your options in accordance to the defence, not what you have pictured in your mind three tackles prior.

Until he does this, I and the many people that support my stance among the footballing world will continue to believe that he is no longer at a first grade standard.

Fair enough.

I agree Kimmorleys form has dropped and he might have to reinvent his style a bit. He is getting older and opposition players and coaches might've become a little too familiar with his play.

But I'd back him to get to his best again.
Injuries, loss of confidence and a pretty dud player roster to work with at times haven't helped.

Unbelievable. Blokes wanting to knife him after one win without him. How about the loss the previous week. And all the other losses without him in previous times.
