Sharks memories

Mine don't go back that far, but there are three things I wanted to share that people might remember, and post some of your own that forgot!! I have no idea what year any of these events was:

1) Les Davidson runs as a decoy about 7 metres out from the Dragons line at Shark Park, comes into contact with a young Jason Stevens. They have a minor altercation, at the end of which Les punches Jason in the head, Stevo drops like a sack of spuds and was lying there about 5 minutes.

2) 2-2 draw between the Sharks and Illawarra Steelers on one windy as F%@k afternoon down at CALTEX!! ;-)

3) Mark McGaw, toes one ahead off the ground on the Sharks 10 metre line and chases it to the halfway line. He gets to the ball first with people chasing, toes it ahead again off the ground into the ingoal, beats the defenders there and SCORES!

Barry Andrews kicking 3 penalty goals from Half way, after 3 kick offs in a row go out on the full thanks to Steve Kneen catching the ball with his foot over the side line. We won the game thanks to Panda and Kneen.

Steve Rogers in his prime in any game.

ET scoring 5 tries against Souths. Peachey's length of the field try against Penrith in 2001 or 2. ET's chip over the top for Rogers, back inside to ET vs St.Geo-Illa. There are too many more . . .

Wills Cup (pre-season) 1978, Cronulla vs Dragins.

Steve Rogers takes an intercept on 2m out from the Cronulla goal line and heads off, John Jansen from stgeorge heads off to cover him from the otherside of the field (but less distance to cover), both players get to the goal line at the same time, Rogers scores a 98m try. Sharks win 20-18.

They both had to come off after that, they were knackered.

Mitch Healey's ball and all try saving tackle on Danny Moore from Manly about '96. Mitch's tackle was so hard, he got up spewing his guts.

SFS, 1988:

Sharks are down 12-2 with 10 minutes to play against a 12-man Souths side. They score a couple of quick tries to get to score to 12-all with less than a minute to play when Souths winger Adam O'Neill gives a penalty away whilst in possession of the ball. Great Sharks winger Sean Watson calmly boots the penalty goal from about 35 metres out and about 10 metres in from touch to give the Sharkies an unlikely victory!

A few of my favourites from more recent years...

2000 vs Knights at Shark Park - Doogs has been talking up all week how he needs to dominate Matty Rogers to get a run in the ANZAC Test team. Rogers takes it to heart and completely shits all over Doogs, and equals his dad's club pointscoring record in the process.

2000 ANZAC Test - Past Shark Matty Rogers with future Shark Brett Kimmorley combine to absolutely tear the shit out of New Zealand. Most memorable was Noddy making a break and sending a wayward pass to Rogers up the middle who gets a boot to it and dives on it to score. Rogers gets the record for most points scored in a Test against New Zealand in the process.

2000 vs Dragons at Shark Park - ET's been bagged all season (much like the Peach) for being too old and slow, but comes out and carves up the old foe. Highlight was the chip kick after making a break which bounced perfectly for Matty Rogers to score.

2000 vs Eels at Shark Park - ET's farewell day, missing the great man himself. Chris Beattie starts a brawl, Matty Rogers runs the length of the field for a try, Andrew Pierce breaks David Penna's neck and Mitch Healey breaks Brett Hodgson's jaw. Possibly the most eventful match of all time, and it's followed by a concert and farewell party for ET and Healey which lasts well into the night.

2001 vs Knights at Toyota Park - A game where defence is thrown out the window as both teams score a mountain of points. Preston Campbell hits his straps and Joey Johns snaps from the pressure of facing the little livewire, knocking Adam Dykes out cold. Mat Rogers makes his return from injury and the crowd loves him.

2001 vs Bulldogs semi final at SFS - Everything falls into place. Jason Stevens sends a pass to Marty Lang to score his second try ever. Preston Campbell and the Peach are their usual selves, carving everyone to shreds and Colin Best still has the pace to slice through a gap without a hand on him.

2002 vs Knights at Toyota Park (notice a theme here?) - The dominant performance. Brett Kimmorley becomes a god in the shire. 'Nuff said.

There are a few memorable bad moments too... Russ Richardson's infamous dropped try in the 2000 final against the Broncos probably tops the list for individual moments.

Great minds think alike Mickey. I was just going to mention that game, but nothing to do with Rat.

My favourite memory of that game is just before Half time, Matty Johns swings it out wide and as we have seen so often, Peach screamed in, took the intercept and ran the length of the field.

Classic stuff.

Great moment. I was getting up out of my seat to grab some food, when suddenly the crowd goes nuts! What a try, what a moment, what a player!

Wasn't that a chip kick gone wrong?
