Sharks memories

Barry Andrews kicking 3 penalty goals from Half way, after 3 kick offs in a row go out on the full thanks to Steve Kneen catching the ball with his foot over the side line. We won the game thanks to Panda and Kneen.

I had no idea that happened. From halfway? That is AWESOME.

My favourite sharks moment was in about 93 or 94. I was at sharkpark on a saturday night as an underage drinker to socialise. Didnt give a sh1t about the game. Cronulla are playing Manly, who at the time, were one of the top sides. The mighty sharks played absolutely awesome and beat em by about twenty. I can remember thinkin "hey, cronulla are winning, go sharkies". That was it. The turning point. From that day on I have been a sharks suporter.

Best moments - anytime Steve Rogers had the ball, particularly back in the days when he partnered Dave Chamberlain in the centres.

Best single moment from the past - Steve Edmonds intercept try against Wests in the 1978 semi final, length of the field, Sharks to the grand final.

Best moments from the present - turning around a disasterous 2002 season with a THUMPING win against the Dragons (although that the ref favoured Cronulla all night so I'm told by some). Season back on track. And I loved when Beattie belted Bartrim at Shark Park a few years ago, nearly knocked him into the crowd.

Although the outcome wasn't what was hoped, the 1973 Grand Final bloodbath showed that the Sharks had arrived. A great memory - lost the match but won the fight.

That Semi against Wests was a great game.
I was there too. I think Greg Pierce got sent off that day too so we beat them with 12 men.
John Dorahey (spelling?) kept making busts and the cover defence kept hitting him that hard it took him 5 mins to recover after each tackle. He was a real danger man in that game.

1989, Miller after a 30 metre break threw a fifteen metre angled inside pass to Glen Coleman, who scores between the posts. We get revenge on the dirty dogs.

Barry Russel scoring from the scrum base base right on full time to beat the Dogs in 1988.

Peachey's magic intercept of Robbie O'Dabis pass to Darren Albert, Shark Park 2001.

Eleven pass try scored against Balmain in 1979 at Leichardt Oval. We won 11-8. it was judged as the try of the round on Controversy corner.

Graham Beames scores a 90 metre try against Norths at North Sydney Oval in 1976.

1978, Mick Mullane carving up Manly in the semi final against Manly. Eric Archer's try in the same game.

My favourite non Sharks memory is seeing Arthur Beetson passing a ball back between his legs, with three Sharks defenders clinging to his back. Russel Fairfax scored the try, after the ball was swung out along the backline.

Foz,

That was the game. Pierce got sent off late for a supposed high tackle and missed the Grand Final. We were already without Dane Sorenson who got copped for a tackle on Foster in the last game of the regular season, also against Wests. We played without the two of them in the Grand Final and without a few more in the mid week replay. I was in one of the stands at the north end of the SSG - I think it was the Noble Stand - right behind the intercept and able to watch it all the way to the line. Great stuff.

Sheros,

I was at the Buldog game you mentioned when Russel scooted from the back of the scrum aganst the Dogs. Another great memory I was going to mention earlier.

There are so many memories. It's great to reminice.

a couple of things one probably very non descript was seeing a mates brother from the gymea club get promoted from c grade to play his one and only game for the mighty sharks , even after getting the mom award.
he never forgot the moment as it was his only game in the sharks colours.

another and very much different to the above was to see steve rogers destroy parramatta in the last game before the 1977 semis ( my memory is rooted so the year maybe wrong) i think it was the last year ted glossop coached us.

another one is seeing ET 's first trial for the sharks and his try in the scoreboard corner holding off a wests player and getting the ball down with inches to spare, we knew he was good but that was the start of a 328 game career, how good is that.

the other is the 1973 grand final obviously, that memory will never fade!

there are heaps of other great moments, geez its good to be a shark!

my favoruite moment was dykes field goal vs parra to win 13 - 12 it was awsome.

also anything that involved the awsome plays of rogers,et and howland when the three played together i was so excited i just knew something was brewing.

and I think a sad moment and very emotional was seeing that look on rogers face when he shrugs his shoulders after knights knocked us out of the prelim final and it was the last game for alot of big name sharkies including old coachie boy langy.. very sad day

Just a fun one, in light of the bunnies clash........

remember the wet game v the bunnies, when Docko had a try disallowed only to get a penalty and when Wilson took the kick, he missed and it was captured in goal by Adam ONeil who then attempted to pass it in a tackle and the ball went straight to GRANT GOODLET who fell on the ground for the easiest try ever!!!!!!!

My saddest memory is the look on ET's face when he realised they weren't going to have enough time to pack a scrum from a Manly knock on in a finals game that they had earlier led by 12..and could have got them into the GF.......

a feat they copied the following week against Newcastle...equally gut wrenching as ET's attempt to pick up a ball in our own in goal lead to a try that made a comeback impossible...

what about McGaw superman dive for a try against penrith???

And Barry Russell's multiple pirouette through the defensive line.....

I was at that game too Pogo. We led about 23-8 and won 23-18. Was Cronin going for a goal kicking record in that game and had a shocker?
