Sharks Smash Sea Pigeons

The last trial can be a good indicator. Most teams have their best sides out, even if they use 20 or so players, and they play more full on because it's the last game before the season starts. I saw the Raiders play their last trial last year and also saw them train the day before. They played like they trained and they played the competition proper the way they played that trial. So it can be a good indicator of where teams are at. The Bulldogs also played similarly in the early part of the season before they imploded.

All I know is Manly and the Sharks will finish far ahead of Souffs and the Bullduds on the table this year.

& i thought the wabbitohs went off early with premiership celebrations. The sharks beat them by a couple of weeks.

I think trials do form some kind of indicator as to the mindset and preparation of a team. If a team starts out slow and lethargic in the trials, they'll more often than not start the season in the same manner.
yep

woeful in the trials last year. came and out were destroyed in round 1.

dont need a ceo

we have ...director of football or some shit.

major sponsor is being negotiated

go home and get your f**king shinebox etc

there si a bit of over excitement yes.

however the last 2 years the trials have been an indication of whatthe club was gunna be that year.

dismal.

its niice to score more than one try in a fckn trial game. which is what theyve had the last 2 seasons. also good to see guys like green, tafua really ripping in early and giving the coach something to think about given the depth of the forwards.

that said green would have been in my round 1 team anyway.

weeks away from end, trials have no bearing on the season (excluding injuries to the few key players who have a run)

Didn't LOL@souff$ lose last week too
The reasons for my opinion on your team's chances this season don't begin and end with 1 trial game. Pretty much everything that has happened since the grand final screams "dud season".

Manly has not won a premiership without Des since 1978. That's almost a drought of Souths proportions.

Winning this trial will at least give the Sharks a lift and some confidence that will be felt at training and into the season.

Hmmm Souths have not won a Premiership without Des since 1971. I like where you're going with this :D

What a stupid f*cking point. Yes, as a coach your argument holds water, but do you really think old Dessy was the reason they won comps in 87 and 96? hahaha please.

Poor Bunniesman doesnt know NRL history

It wasn't NRL back then for a technicality.

Every year I say a trial is just a trial, it's nice to have a win and give Flanno a few selection headaches. I would not be writing the premiers off after one trial. Great to talk about footy.

To be fair, the premiers of 2011 and the best team of the last five years were also doing it tough against cronulla at shark park last year. They dominated us the whole game and it was 13-0 with about 5-8 minutes left. Still don't know how we won that in normal time.

We lost a lot of games like that last year Danny, and it kind of broke us.

I should get on us to make the 8 now though as I think we may see those games go our way this year. If we play that well in the next trial against the Stinklers we might shorten a bit.

Rather win by 30 than lose by 30 no matter what type of game is.

Anyone saying they wouldn't rather win than lose us full of it.

Trials mean nothing. Ontop of the players that were missing from both teams, there's the fact that most of these players had their first hit out in several months and are nowhere near being in peak form or the standard they should be at during the season.

Obviously it's a better sign for the season ahead to come out and win these games. But at the end of the day they're nothing more than preparation for the proper season. We've seen teams come out and dominate the trials only to go absolutely nowhere in the season (Eels last year). Likewise we've seen teams go like crap through the trials and even the opening rounds only to go on and be among the top teams.
