Sharks to battle the Broncos
Monday, August 10, 2009
The bookies have the Sharks at long odds against Brisbane tonight, but nobody has convinced Ricky Stuart or his players that they can't cause a Monday night boilover at Suncorp Stadium.
When quizzed on his teams recent run of outs, which was compounded by the head injury to Reece Williams last weekend, Stuart was adamant his team could beat the stuggling Brisbane side.
"I'll tell you what the vibe is like at the club," Stuart said in the Sun Herald. "We'll beat the Broncos on Monday, that's what the vibe is like."
The Sharks will go into the match with a patched up team, minus Williams and with Anthony Tupou still a week away from returning from a hamstring strain.
Paul Gallen is again on board in his second game following a month on the sidelines with a shoulder problem and should be better for the run against Parramatta last Sunday.
In something of a reshuffle in the backline, Matt Wright has moved to five eighth in place of Blake Green, while experienced campaingers Bronx Goodwin and Misi Taulapapa come in for youngsters Blake Ferguson and Nathan Stapleton, with Stapleton retained in the 17 on the bench and with Ferguson to play in the under-20's.
The 17 players selected earlier in the week have travelled to Brisbane and last minute reshuffles aside, should run out as per program.
The Sharks v Broncos clash kicks off at 7.00pm in Brisbane, with the match to be shown live on Fox Sports. The referees are Ben Cummins and Phil Haines.
Note: While in Brisbane the Sharks entertained their Queensland members at a meet and greet and signing session at the Holiday Inn on Sunday evening.
A healthy crowd turned up to show their support to the team, with the players spending almost an hour with their Quensland fans, posing for photographs and signing posters and memorabilia.
