Shaun Johnson named Golden Boot Winner

Don't expect an Aussie to win it next yr either, this award has become a joke, I was fine with it until 2012, when Sinfield somehow won it, in 2004 A Farrell carried that Wigan team, he was immense at club level playing as a middle forward. I could see why many Aussies weren't ok with it, but that one I was fine with.

Just to say there's no bigger critic than me of the attitude of English football (Rugby League) journos toward Aussie football.

So it's mainly based on international games, but Slater won it the year he handed NZ the world cup?

I guess the problem is what this award is about is so vague or confused that this sort of thing is bound to happen. Was Johnson good this year? Yep. Was he the best halfback? Nope. Was he the best player over the course of the year? Nope. Was he the best player in the four nations? Arguably. Is he the best player in the world? no way.

That's the issue, rightly or wrongly it's been interpreted as the "best player in the world" Sinfield and Johnson have clarified that it's not,

Then given the paucity of international league, it's really a rather meaningless award - yes, Johnson was very good, and worthy of an international player of the year award - but he's not even in a discussion of the best player in the world... Bit strange to me

The problem is that some people are ignorant to the fact that there is more to league than NRL and SOO. It's why the sport struggles to grow.

Here here! Some of the best footy of the season was in the 4 Nations and SJ was a major catalyst for this.

Are you fair dinks? Man of the match in the first game versus Australia and the final.

Unarguably.

Complete package. Can kick, create, has speed to burn and is faking goodlooking as well.
We lose him to union and it's all over, we will be just left with all the fuglies.

He is pretty much the face of the Warriors and NZ league right now. If he can bring his four nations form into 2015 then he will be a bonafide NRL star with the Sydney media blowing loads over him. This should be enough to keep him on league until he is around 30ish. Also will the cap going up all the time and the Warriors always having spare cap space I don't see union being a serious threat in the immediate future. He has said he may want to give 7s a crack bit has never mentioned wanting to play 15s or being a all black.

What a disgraceful decision.

He was hot and cold with the Warriors.

Should gave gone to either S. Burgess, JT or Graham before Johnson was even considered.

Why don't they call it the 4 nations Award instead?

Cause that's what it seems to be.

Oh diddums, one of your lads didn't win it.

The title isn't called the Four Nations Award, its called the Golden Boot Award. Its very clear cut how its judged. Heavily favouring internationals without discarding club performances. Shaun was very good for a poor Warriors team this year. And he completely owned the Four Nations.

If Burgess played in the Four Nations and England got through to the final he was a good chance of winning it. However, he didn't, Shaun did play, dominated the tournament and his team won the title.

You're wrong I didn't say it had to be Burgess. I ALSO think JT and Graham equally deserved it.

I know its called the Golden Boot Award I'm not dumb. But Johnson was best in 4 nations but average in NRL this year. Too hot and cold. He is now only beginning to take control in matches with his decision making.

No way was he very good for the Warriors. If he took more control in matches and delivered Warriors would have made the 8. I saw Warriors games a lot and he didnt impress me.

He waits to get to his kick on the last too much. That won't bring success for Warriors.

So you would be fine with JT winning it.. How was his 4 nations form this year? It is an international award after all.

The fact Johnson was average for Warriors his usual hot and cold form, he doesn't deserve the award.

Some agree with him receiving the award and others don't.

Again, answer the question. How was JT's form in the Four Nations?

The issue with you and others who are dissing Shaun Johnson winning the award is you don't want to understand the criteria because it doesn't suit your agenda. The award is heavily weighted on international form. The players you named... JT didn't play, secondly, Johnson was unbelievably outstanding in the tournament, the stand out of the tournament.

People who piss and moan about the judges/criteria should take a closer look at the judges for the Dally M's. How often do points get awarded for players names rather than performance? All awards are largely subjective anyway, it is what it is.

Maybe if Greg Inglis wasn't embarrassed by SJ in the 4N final Burgess would of won. who knows?
