Shaun Timmins

I am absolutely amazed at the criticism that Shaun Timmins seems to receive from other teams supporters on these forums. Its almost as if they aren't watching the same game that I'm watching. Timmins has been oustanding for the Dragons this year and it seems we are finally getting some reward for recent seasons full of injuries. I think it stems from Gould choosing Timmins at 5/8 for SOO infront of Scott Hill. He is not a 5/8 and he has never claimed to be but did the job that was asked of him.

But as a lock he is one of the best if not the best running around and if shown by continued selecetion in all Rep teams and Dally M awards. His stats are outstanding, he scores tries, makes alot of tackles, makes alot of line breaks and is definately the most dangerous lock in the game when close to the tryline. So what is the deal?

I think some people have the misconception that:

Dragons player = overrated player

So, whenever one of our's is rewarded for their achievements either with an award or rep selection there's gonna be some rumbling of discontent from those who probably haven't even watched them play much but just noted what team they play for.

I think most people get disgruntled because he isn't the most talented of players, but has the biggest heart, the most desire to win, a great workload, leadership, imspiration ability and other such characterisitcs.

For a man with no knees, to do what he does is amazing. Other supporters don't realise this.

Like, I can only think of one current dragons player who has the consensus support of pretty much every football fan as a deserved representative player- Luke Bailey. I hope he keeps the faith when he returns this weekend. It's been far too long.

Infact, in he's pre-injury days he was a very talented player. He played mostly in the centres and also 5/8 until Barrett came along and he moved permanently to the centres. He played for a very long stretch of time without missing a game (then the media decided to point it out and jinx him!).

As you say, he's a man with no knees, plays through pain, and even with his physical restrictions still makes a huge contribution at the back of the scrum.

Truely inspirational.

I actually didn't know that MOS1982 so thanks for pointing that out! :thumn

I always thought that he was a lock-come-5/8 but it seems it's the other way around. I always knew he was a gun but I thought more like the Fitzgibbon type I spose because I didn't see much of him before his knee's conked out on him. Maybe since his knee injuries he's turned his game towards a more work-orientated rather than run and pass???

But thanks for the info, and you're right, he is truly inspirational and gives hope to all players who have crippling injuries as he has.

Hehe, even I'll admit I didn't think he was going to get Lock of the year this year though. Good on him

Does any one else like watching to see if Timmo passers the ball and see how many times he runs cross the field and dummies, maybe it's just me.
Great to watch. :thumnn

Haha it can be used in a drinking game if you want, every time he doesn't pass, you need to take a swig, every time he DOES pass you have to skull

BTW Sticks, he's retired from rep footy so he won't get picked ;-)
