The Shield wikipedia article says that first innings points was scrapped in the 70s.

I was certain it was used well beyond that into the modern era. Does anyone know if that's accurate, and when first innings points was discontinued for the points tally scoring system?

Big round of games starting today, as a congested field enters the home stretch.

Shame Clayton's out with a hammy but looking forward to seeing debutant Burdon in action for Queensland.

Sam Konstas was bowled for 10 in his bid to regain selection for the World Test Championship final amid a chaotic start to a Sheffield Shield match in Sydney on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old Test rookie had his stumps rattled when he tried unsuccessfully to heave a Scott Boland delivery through the leg-side in the third over of NSW's clash with Victoria at the SCG.

Konstas and fellow NSW opener Nic Maddinson had attacked the early overs with flare and aggression, pulling out lap shots and walking down the wicket to Boland and fellow opening quick Fergus O'Neill.

Konstas survived an lbw shout after failing to connect while attempting a lap shot, before Maddinson got off the mark with an outside edge that squirted through the cordon.

Victoria conceded 30 runs, including four fours and two sixes, from the first two overs alone.
