Sheffield Shield 2025/26

He is a good cricketer. Scores plenty of important runs. Good to see a guy ply his trade and have it pay off.
There’s something about allrounders being late bloomers. Slug was completely off the radar until a year or so ago, and now he’s seen as a top cricketer.

Even guys like Watson and Symonds took a long time for it to happen at test level. Steve Waugh had a slow start. Mitch Marsh was dire for years until he became…..a little less dire. Jack Edwards is starting to hit his stride now. Makes you wonder if Green has been set up to fail

New batch of Shield games from tomorrow

A Few test guys playing

NSW no chance of making final, despite a very slight possibility if results/draws go our way...

Connolly, Renshaw, Bartlett, Abbott, Kuhnemann will all return to the Shield after the T20 World Cup exit but Steve Smith is unavailable

Last batch of Shield games starting tomorrow

Victoria will host the final

Most likely against SA, who are also their opponents this last round

This saddens me...

Head 'resting' before IPL

Especially as SA could mis the final , although they are in the box seat to make it

Plus you dont want to play in a Shield final over shit and giggle cricket ??
Dissapointing really...

SA travel to Melbourne without Test opener Travis Head, who is resting before the IPL. Head also won't be available for the Shield final if SA qualify

Cameron Green is set to play before heading off to IPL duty in what will be his first first-class match since a disappointing Ashes, and his only red-ball match between now and Australia's next Test series. Josh Inglis is being rested from the NSW game after playing against Queensland despite the fact he is not headed to the IPL until May.

NSW's Shield hopes were ended by their defeat against SA in the last round, but they have secured silverware with the One-Day Cup. This match will mark Greg Shipperd's last with the state, and he has named an unchanged squad from the one that lost to SA by nine wickets inside three days last week. Jack Edwards has not been able to recover from his hamstring injury in time to play in the final round of the season.

NSW squad: Kurtis Patterson (capt), Sean Abbott, Joel Davies, Peter Francis, Matthew Gilkes, Ryan Hadley, Liam Hatcher, Sam Konstas, Josh Philippe (wk), Will Salzmann, Tanveer Sangha, Lachlan Shaw, Charlie Stobo

Still spots for that SA tour available. Plenty to play for.

Heres a question for ya @Fangs
Kurtis Patterson scores a ton in this Shield game
Webster scores good runs, Green is average

Is Kurtis in the SA squad and Green misses out ?
(Keep in mind Webster can be the 5th bowler)

Or Is Kurtis direct swap for Khawaja

Cameron Green has plot armour. He ain't going anywhere.

Also seamers are very useful in SA. We even took Andrew McDonald along once. Selectors probably still don't mind Webster and Green in that middle order together. And even as a back up Green is just getting picked in the squad.

I do like KP who you could play anywhere in the order. But if we are honest its going to be Inglis as the back up batsman. And Head hasn't put a foot wrong yet as opener so he is likely to keep that position too.

If KP does have a path then its through Khawaja's place. But he has to beat down the door with runs. 26 off 63 today isn't going to do it.

Cam Green forever
110 not out

WA 5/232
Blues all out 237

Too good for shield. Just needs that little push with the bat at test level and he'll be right.

Has a big test in SA against that seam attack. I think our bats will have a tough time.

Sam Konstas sure is consistent his season, especially last 5-6 matches

The tall poppy syndrome with Green is nuts.

I don't think we have the kind of quality coaches in the Australian set up that we need to get the best out of him
