Shifty's NRL revival 'due to O'Meley'

Pilates with Mark O'Meley - that's Bulldogs halfback Brent Sherwin's unlikely recipe for a return to the NRL's top grade.
Sherwin admits he wasn't "on the right track" when pre-season 2007 arrived and credits league's "Ogre" with picking him up and setting him on the path to a re-call, in round six against Parramatta, after languishing in premier league.
"One person in particular, Mark O'Meley, told me to come and live at his house and he got me on the right track and I lost a few kilos and it's been great for me," Sherwin told AAP.
"I was living out at Narellan and there wasn't much to do so I was just kind of sitting there and not moving around, not doing anything ... watching movies, and you tend to eat more when you're not doing anything.
So I moved over with Mark and now I do pilates and other stuff with Mark and he's got a couple of boys who keep me busy."
The 29-year-old was "getting jack" of living an hour's drive from training and is now only 20 minutes from Belmore.
"I knew I had to do it," he said.
"They've been great, his wife cooks really good meals and makes me get off my butt and do stuff to help round the house.
"I just kind of got into the routine and I'm still in there and they're not sick of me yet."
Sherwin, who is signed with the Dogs until the end of 2008, revealed he is still playing through the pain of an injury he suffered in the pre-season, before Kiwi international Ben Roberts claimed the Dogs No.7 jersey.
"I had an injury in the off-season that took a while to get over," he said.
"It was a bone bruise so it still hurts every now and again now."
The former City Origin representative - who will line up against in-form Cronulla halfback Brett Kimmorley at Telstra Stadium on Sunday - said his road back meant a return to basics.
"I just had to keep biding my time, playing well in reserve grade and Folkesy (coach Steve Folkes) said if I played well in reserve grade then I'd get my jersey back.
"I've got my jersey back now and hopefully I can keep it.
"I just kind of challenge myself against the other halfbacks every week and see if I can do my job over the other halfback, then my job's done."
Meanwhile, regular five-eighth Daniel Holdsworth, who was surprisingly named in the second row for the clash with the Sharks, will wear the No.12 jersey but play at lock with Reni Maitua moving up to partner Sonny Bill Williams.
"That's the only jersey that fits, Reni's an XL," Holdsworth explained.
