yeah canberra were awful in the 2nd half, if barrett scored probably would have given the dragons momentum to run away with the game. The raiders kept in the contest though, which i was happy about. I don't think you guys are in for a bad season, top8 easy i believe if your guys stay healthy. Still don't believe the dragons can win a premiership though with nathan brown as ur head coach. Sloppy start but i can see the dragons playing better very soon.

We weren't exactly playing at our best either. Two talented but rusty sides playing in slippery conditions, either team could have won in the end and I really think it should have been saints seeing there were three key moments where we all but scored tries. But I'm happy with the match, it was a lethargic start to the season for both teams and the Raiders just managed to tough it out.

I thought Barrett was pretty handy (yes he dropped ball) but made the initial break and set up Simmonds try

I agree. The drop ball was a one-in-a-million mistake, otherwise he was excellent, and one of the best on the field. He set up both our tries, and if he hangs on to the ball and scores he probably gets man of the match. His defence was also great - not just solid, but hard and stinging at times. It's great to see him back and playing well.

On the rest of the team, well, it is only round 1. I can forgive them for a rusty performance first-up - after all, I've had a lot of practice. It happens every year.

Yep your right but he still look like a compete tool and he is a rep player sorry guys that's unacceptable at this level, there wasn't a hand laid on him. I belive Barrett Scores Dragons get momentum and win #-o Barrett lost it for you today.

Yes barrett lost it for us today, with a few others. But lets be realistic.
Barrets great pass out wide, Simmonds Scores.
Barrett great cut out pass, young Scores.
barrett Splits the defence. and Drops it.

Barrett got us back into the game, yet you call him a tool.

You lost to the Tigers ... We lost to the raiders. Big Difference. Go home.

I think the less said about the Sharks' effort, the better.

I dont think anyone has mentioned the wind. Today the breeze favoured Raiders in the first half and Saints in the 2nd half. Early in the game, Canberra kicked a line drop out which saw Saints running out from their 30m line.

I kept thinking that all Saints had to do was to hold them to a close score the second half would see us come back. But the Raiders were too good up front and held a handy lead at half time.

The Barrett dropped ball was just one of those things. I would have put my house on him scoring but it wasnt to be. It would have seen Saints hit the lead and therefore the non-try happened at a crucial moment.... at the time St George had their tails up and all the momementum was going their way.

There was another set soon after which saw Saints looking dangerous but after that, the wind just went out of their sails. They 'won' the second half but ultimately paid dearly for a few fundamental errors.

btw, Bailey was penalised for a high tackle which cost two points. He was placed on report but from where I was sitting, the tackled player fell into it and the whole incident didnt deserve further attention.

Not a great game for either team but well played Canberra... too good up the middle.

The line drop out you refer to was from the 20m line after Riddell missed a penalty from right in front. If the Dragons ran it back from the 30m line, then the drop-out travelled around 50m, pretty standard stuff in today's game.

As far as I can recall, there was more or less no wind at all. Agree with most of the rest of your post, but I think Bailey could be in a bit of trouble... but nothing compared with the trouble Hodges should be in.

20m drop out it was. Quite correct. It went about 55m on the fly... better than standard imo.
Actually, the breeze was stronger than you think. On the pitch it was certainly much better than more than more or less no wind at all. The flags at the southern end were the indicator. It was blowing from the north and was up around 10 knots imo.
It assisted both teams.

from what i saw the wind was playing games with the back three of both teams all day
the bailey tackle was high and deserved a penalty, i dont think he deserves any time on the sideline for it thou, i dont think anything will come from the first 65 judicary wise (havnt seen the last 25, had to go to work)
sloppy game, saints just didnt have it in them to put us away from what im seeing in the highlights

Gaz and Cooper were shit because Booga and Mogg shut them out, it appears i was 100% right, its one thing to know our game plan but quite another to stop

Im pleased we guts out a win, a few dodgey calls but honestly i think they were pretty even by the end of it, both teams blew chances and looked rusty.

Willow sumed it up, we were just too dominate up the middle

Baileys shot was not high that was a joke. Typical cat Raiders staying down so the video ref has a look and they get a penalty! Piss weak Canberra. Why dont you get Davicos mum and dad on tv having a cry??

It should be interesting to see if the Raiders can get on top in the forwards again when Ryles is fit to play. I think you were sorely lacking him today.

Our 2 Big Mobile men were missing, and we missed them badly.

Sims and Ryles. I new the Raiders may prove a touch too strong up front without the 2.

ive been reading these threads for several years now...and i have to say i agree with Biglance....Saints played today like they were more interested in who is contacting them on their mobile phones..and what messages they were missing

Ive watched St George play footy for a long time and i have never seen our so called stars play as bad as what they did today...they may improve next week...lol they will have to. i was disgusted.

Bailey & Long - the only saints who could hold their heads up
Barrett - was he on the field in the first half...?
Pig - Gasnier - Timmins - Blacklock these players are on reasonable big money...
what did they do?
Firman is so overated dammit i hate half backs that cant put bombs up right and halfbacks that cant grubber from ten yards out...

Some of the old red and whites would be rolling in their graves...they just didnt want to do a dam thing....
First grade players shouldnt be giving penalties like they did in the second halve...
First grade players shouldnt be dropping the dam ball the way they do :x

If Saints play like that all year we will run second last and the raiders will run third last....i thought we were in for such a good year  instead i think ive done my cash :(

dam i aint been so disappointed since Melbourne won that grade final

if i was Brownie reserve grade would be playing next week so our so called 1st graders could answer their dam phones

honestly there is something wrong at Saints and they better fix it soon - the so called stars are not worth the effort...thats 5 losses at Kogarah on the trot grrrrr

#-o not two old to care :?

Here we go again.... Whinging, whinging and more whinging.

It's Round 1 for f*%$'s sake. Give the boys a chance.

Poor Brett has had one lousy game in about twenty and you're giving it to him.

Of course it was disappointing and there's not much to write home about from that performance. But remember this, there are 25, yes 25 rounds to go.
