Should anzac tests be scrapped?

Strong latte, you must work for the NRL. Becasue you want to scrap something that was a resounding success.

Why confine all internationals to the TN tournament. We should be playing more and more Tests whenever we can fit them in.

So keep the Test.

Why does not wanting tests mid season mean I work for the NRL? It was obvious half those players out there were not exerting themselves as fully as they may have done because they were worried about backing up for their club matches... Anyway, if I worked for the NRL why would I be suggesting we cut a couple rounds of the comp to make more room for International footy?

The more internationals the better. Why would you NOT want to see a great game like last night's played?

It's a question of quality... In Union they have a highly successful international season because they have all their internationals in big chunks. All teams in the TN (RU) get a chance to have some warm up matches etc so they can gell and get few games under their belt. In League it can be pretty random... a test here a test there, but never a chance for a solid international season (apart from last year's TN, and that was pretty badly organised in comparison to RU's). If we shortened the comp slightly and had all the internationals in one go, then we would see a higher quality of Footy! Last nights match was ok, but lets face it, if it came between the anzac test or a SOO match, which would you have voted for?

Test match.

The whole game's gone bananas that we've built one comp up so much that a state rivalry is more important than the entire international scene. FMD.

Whats banana's is that the State of Origin is so much better organised than international footy! These one off tests are pointless, as they're neither team gets a solid chance to get at eachothers game.

One off internationals are common place in sports such as football etc.

Even cricket etc has the occaisional one off international.

Nothing wrong with it. Its a chance to use all your weapons on the night. Don't leave anything in the kit. Go for your life.

I wont comment any more on that matter except to say a number of items on that website are false, and that individual who has created the site has been blaming the ARL and even Super League for their use of the word ANZAC since 97.

The ARL were not caught out for the Cumbria match, and in past years when they have used the term it has been legal, and been given approval by the appropiate governments.

I don't share his views. He obviously is against any use of the Anzac name, whereas I think if we are going to have a test on Anzac weekend we may as well use the name.

Sure, I was bloody unhappy when Super League first used the Anzac name, as they are were for-profit organisation and their promotion of it was pretty distasteful. But the ARL using it I have no problem with provided they get the right permission and the promotion is not over the top.

So what I don't get is if (1) They had permission to use the Anzac name in previous years, and (2) they did in fact have permission to use the Anzac name in that meaningless Cumbria game; they why didn't they try and obtain permission this year, or if they did try and obtain permission, why was it denied?

Otherwise with no real tie-in with Anzac we may as well have had the test last weekend, or next weekend.

Move the test to Anzac Day or call it the "Anzac Memorial Test".

I still think with or without having Anzac in its name, the connection is obvious.

I think we are being picked on, AFL have their Anzac "Day" match and I see very little difference.

At least with the rugby league, it is Australia v New Zealand. Not some Melbourne suburb v another!

Mate - more of a lighthearted refernce at the NRL's incompetence. They seem a bit silly at times.

It is good that you put forward arguments. I believe the ANZAC weekend Test is good for our game and should continue.

How about giving NZ another shot. They've only hosted it once.

Fair enough... Just to be clear guys, I LOVE international rugby league! Its just that the way it's organised seems to damage the preparation of teams sometimes... If we are to keep the ANZAC test, then we shouldn't have any club games that weekend, and the national teams should be chosen 2 weeks in advance! That way all the players involved would get a sense of the enormity of the test they were involved in and would be out there trying to kill each other!

Maybe with 16 teams and 22 rounds we can explore those options.

Having no club matches would focus all the attention on an AUS-NZ match. There is merit in that suggestion.
