He is a League player until the end of the season. Why cut off your nose to spite your face...
Pick him FOR SURE. Why not?

So is tuquiri and/or Tate not as good (if not- bloody close IMO) as issie. You have those two ready to go.

If there was no one else close then sure pick him.

I don't really give 2 hoots if he plays, my query is 'What person in their right mind gives a league player one of the biggest AFL contracts going around without him playing even a game in the top league!!!!!?????'
Christ almighty if I were an up and comer in the AFL I'd be PISSED at the moment.

I wouldn't pick him personally...I'd pick someone who will be there for the years to come. Not a case of spiting Folau, simply giving someone else the best chance to make it in the side.

I wouldn't pick him. But then again as a Blues supporter, i don't want to see Lockyer, Thurston, Inglis, Slater, Civoneciva (spelling?) or Smith picked...

Does anyone know what Folau will be doing next year and 2012 as the GWS don't start until 2013 according to my Swannies loving wife....

No Way.

Lote would do a good job there. Wouldn't lose anything by picking him or Tate.

Queensland says Israel Folau has played his last State of Origin game

QUEENSLAND last night showed their disgust at Israel Folau's defection by dumping him from the all-conquering Maroons team for Origin II. QRL managing director Ross Livermore said it was intolerable to have Folau urging kids in western Sydney to take up AFL while on the other hand continuing to play on league's biggest stage.
After news of the defection broke Livermore got straight on the phone to Maroons coach Mal Meninga, who agreed Folau had to go.
"I would say that Israel has played his last game for Queensland and I think Mal would be of the same view. Mal and the selectors would prefer to look at the long term," Livermore said.
Meninga and the selectors will be told to look to the future when they meet next Monday to name the team for the return Origin match in Brisbane.
It is understood the Warriors' Brent Tate is first in line for Folau's spot, ahead of Lote Tuqiri.

If the selectors choose Folau, the team will be rejected by the QRL board anyway, with directors having the final say.
"The AFL is going to use Israel to get kids in Sydney playing AFL, and good luck to them," Livermore said. "We want kids playing rugby league and it's important to look at the big picture.
"Brent has been loyal to the game whereas Lote has been in union for seven years. Loyalty has traditionally played a big part in the [Origin] selection process."
Veteran Queensland forward Petero Civoniceva agreed Folau's spot should be given to someone else. "When he was picked for Origin I, Israel hadn't made a decision," Civoniceva said.
"Now that he has, it's up to the QRL to make a ruling and I think it's best they look to the future."
Folau telephoned Meninga on Monday night to tell him of his decision and promised to give "150 per cent" if he was still chosen for Queensland.
But after Meninga met with Livermore yesterday it became abundantly clear there was no chance of that happening.
Meninga thought Folau was staying in league after word got out last week he had rejected a big offer from rugby union. "I'm very disappointed but I understand his decision given the money involved," Meninga said. "We are getting raided and need to get an independent commission going to save our game."
Livermore said that irrespective of when the commission started, the QRL would make submissions to the NRL and ARL for upgraded representative payments based on service.
Currently, Queensland skipper Darren Lockyer is paid the same match fee as a rookie.

When you look at the situation ...

6 million for 3 years ... Play him why should he be dropped for bettering himself by switching codes? if he went to the London Broncos on the same money is there a difference?

What would you do if the broncos said only best we can do is 2 million over 4 years ...

i think it is a shame that the NRL loses out only because of the inability of the decision makers to actually do something to stop the players from moving to another code.

I heard a caller on talking sport who said there was a player in the 60's who trialed with the dragons, he was a good player aswell forget his name but he couldn't hack it ...

way i see it the NRL athlete can play any sport, soccer, afl, union ... how many can actually play league ... name a player in the codes who would make an impact in our code ... Lote look so much better playing for the tigers than he did in union ...

Izzy has gone for the money KMH has gone for the challenge and the money is really good, i wonder what is going to happen in 3 year time when the contracts are over ... are they going to stay or are they going to try something else ...

GWS might or might not succeed but at the end of the day it is up to the clubs like parra, panthers tigers doggies that are in the west to pick up their game and fight them back, put in offers for their players and then make it out .. " he is interested but he is better of staying where he is, he would not be able to cope with the intensity of our game "

we should have 1 player exempt from the cap
2 marquee players
minimum wage of the players should be 250K
juniors given discounts from the cap
also have a rule for veterans who have played ten years @ NRL level so guys like beaver can stay at the 1 club for longer ...

so many real issues but these only come about once the league actually gets what it is worth .

SOO 1 this year got 2.4 million viewers .. that has got to be worth a truck loads more than what they got for it, plus Fairfax gets 50% no matter what, quicker we get rid of them the better and once the independent commission gets up and running the better
