Yeah sorry for jumping the gun there.
a/ and b/ go together. It's one thing to set foot on an Aboriginal community, and another to b/ feel comfortable doing so. Can't see Joey or anyone who approves of his comments, doing so.
Fibroman's A-Z post implies that if you're "tough" (according to his definitions of the word) than you can tolerate radical remarks and those who make them.
Personally, I'd rather continue getting my wife to take me to the end of season trip ... she's hot and I love her.
from what i've heard Joey has been involved in all sorts of Indiginous and other "coloured skin" type initiatives involving football in the past. i can't vouch for that at all... much like most people can't vouch for anything to do with this subject outside of what they've read in the paper or heard on the radio. i don't believe that there is anything to suggest that Joey, or Fibroman for that matter, would have any problem in an indiginous community or otherwise. if they started throwing terms like black merkin around they soon would, for sure... but something tells me they would have the brains, regardless of their level of ignorance, to not do such a thing. they probably wouldn't be compelled to do so, anyway.
i don't find Joeys comments acceptable... although i do recognise that context is very much important with such things. to label someone racist, in my mind, there has to be hatred or a feeling of superiority involved towards a particular race. i'm not sure Joey is a racist person, in spite of using racial, potentially derogatory terms to describe a person. i'm not sure what has been claimed suggests that there is any hatred involved... nor has he made any generalisations regarding a particular race.
should he be villified for the comment? sure. it was a f**king dumb thing to say. i would label him ignorant and careless before i would label him racist, though. it is hardly news that Joey is an arsehole.
at the end of the day, i could be very wrong... but given the lack of information we really have on the topic i could equally be right. it's all just assumptions based on 2 words - black merkin. i've heard these words plenty of times in all sorts of contexts, hateful, ignorant and jokingly.
