Honestly what he did to Jamie Soward deserves to be sacked, he has played with Sowies confidence a real bad call up until that point I was willing to see him out the whole two years. I'd say if things dont turn around early next year we need to find a new coach and start rebuilding or else we may see a repeat of Kearney at the Eels which is not good for anyone involved.
spot on!

when jamie came to our team, bennett was really the one who took him under his wing (bringing in dell as a motivating factor / mentor helped too..remember when he was injured and dell got him to get up and back into the line?).

it was that confidence that produced kicks like the first try in the gf. bringing him on off the bench was a travesty. you could just sense he wasnt in the zone. one of the commentators remarked why he wasnt in position etc.... well if the coach has promoted fien to handle the kicking where soward was the key previously, id feel out of sorts too!

so many times in that game we needed his pinpoint kicking. fien wasnt up to snuff.

I wish Doust would get on the phone to Potter or Brown and give one of them next year to prove that they deserve a 3 year deal. Maybe forget about the assistant coach and go for the both of them as co-coaches.

Maybe the new coach could bring back with him a couple of mongrel English forwards, a strike centre and a quick and clever halfback.

"Steve Price (St George Illawarra) [F]: Has refused to make the necessary adjustments and has shown little gumption when big calls needed to be made. Refuses to be himself, rather going in as a Bennett clone. Provides little in attack and has not appeared to endear himself to the senior playing group. I doubt he'll be there in 2013."

Coaches ratings taken from rleague.com.
As we can see,Price has been given an F rating and the judge is pretty spot on.Hopefully his prediction for 2013 is accurate.

I agree that the buck stops with Price. He had three years under a great coach and should have been well prepared for this year. However, I don't believe he failed because he abandoned all that Benny set up. Our attack had become too predictable last year so it made sense to try to add more dimensions.
I think where he has failed is in recognising and acting where players are getting past it - Hornby, Fien, Young and to a lesser extent Coops.
I love Hornby as a player, been one of my favourites, but it is obvious he is struggling and, unlike others on this forum, I don't expect him to fall on his sword. Yes, he is a club stalwart but he is also a family man. I don't blame him for one minute for putting his wife and kids first - as in, staying on six figures for playing footy to the best of his ability for as long as he can, rather than joining a the hordes looking for work in club support roles or in media jobs.
Same with the other veterans.
However, as coach, Price has to put the club's interests first and that sometimes means dropping guys who have worked hard for you and are still trying their best to defy advancing years and miles on the clock.

Agree 100% well said ! i also love hornby i would love to see him get out there and maybe a miracle can arrise and who knows we are in the finals ! or better still next year (if it is hornby and coops last yr) that we come firing out and grab a top 4 spot just for the boys who have given so much for this club thats why its so sad to see dean young in his final yr so disappointed at where we are positioned on the ladder.

i think due to limited 2 options the stats have been swayed greater in the "keep Price" side..
if there was a third option such as "give Price 6 weeks next season, and then remove him if no improvement" i doubt there would be 32 votes to keep him for the entire season..
you would probably see most of the current 32 votes to keep him go towards this option..

The problem for Price (assuming he stays) is that success in 2013 is going to be extremely difficult.. and dont get me wrong, its not impossible, but he will need to get the most out of the current squad (halves in particular), with Beale/Fritz both playing their socks off...

Whoever gets the job in 2013 has a massive task in front of them to keep their job.

agree a big problem for Price, but one that has been self inflicted. He has had numerous opportunities to strengthen the squad since the time he was announced as Bennetts successor, but failed to take any action what so ever, instead recruit a heap of players that were never going to really threaten for first grade on a regular basis..

If it is someone new in 2013 I think most supporters would happy with the club going in the right direction as opposed to where we finish on the table.

I think you are correct on this however, with this poll I have tried to get rid of the fence sitter option. In real life, giving Price 6 weeks next year would mean the new coach who replaces him would start behind the eight ball not having the pre-season to set up for the season and try to move the team up from the bottom of the ladder.

No i think Price needs to go and the new coach needs the best opportunity to succeed.

When the dust has settled and with a clear head I am willing to see Price see out his contract and maybe even turn us around in a positive direction, I hope he has it in him to improve the team because he'll have a better squad to work with next year as well.

Better squad? No Scott or Young? Hornby, Fien and Coops a year older? Question mark on Beale. Frizell maybe okay. Sorry Minh, don't see it as being better, although the young players coming through may be up to it. I also would let Price see out his contract.

The main reason i want Price gone is that there doesn't seem to be any forward direction with freshening an ageing team. The only positive move was Morris 's move to fullback which was a clever move back then. However the season has never taken off and Price clearly has struggled to stamp his influence. His treatment of Soward the other week where we desperately needed creativity to score points was baffling.
I honestly can't see improvement next season,Sure Beale will add zip in the backs,we are heading for the lowest point scoring team for over a decade, and how will we turn that around in 2013.Our defence has prevented us getting the spoon this season and i credit the players and the previous coach for that ,not this coach.

the way beale has been playing the last 5-6 weeks he woudl struggle to make our starting team... BIG question marks over this recruit IMO.
bad under the high ball, and dissapears from matches. seems to lack any motivation at the moment, which represents a poor attitude to me given its his last season at the broncos and his team is playing for a finals chance..

To be fair Scott is a terrific player but ever since he signed to the Knights he has not been the same, I think Deano made the correct decision which will allow the younger players to take his position with fresher legs we will miss his leadership though. Im hoping we dont need to rely too much on Hornby and Fien next season but I think it will still be the case. Weyman back is a huge plus too.

Minh,I forgot about big Mick. I hope he comes back better than ever. Plus Kyle will be back sometime in the new year. You may be right, we may be better next year. Surely it couldn't get any worse.

I cant decide.. I think Price hasnt been given enough of a shot & that he hasnt had the squad to do anything anyway.

However I cant really cop that we have not improved all year long, and my lordy we contest maybe 5% of attacking kicks that we put through, thats just unforgivable, its like the chasers have nfi what play is going to happen, or have no faith in the kicker.. whether its actually Sowie/Hornby's fault too I dont know, but we look like a pack of idiots on the field.

Agree the biggest concern is that Price has not improved many if any players at all.

Couldn't get much worse than this year I hope, I guess like every year I keenly await the new season hoping for a good one but I may be looking through rose tinted glasses or whatever they call it as usual.
