As Wayne Bennett said in the press conference … you’ve got to cop these things and get on with it. True, I agree, afterall we live in an environment where human judgement is part and parcel of the game and therefore mistakes will be made. But how much must you take was not made clear by Bennett and I’m quite sure if the Broncos received the same treatment as the Raiders do week in week out his comment might have been structured differently.
It is an opinion of mine that if Raiders management do not take action regarding the treatment we have received this season from the officials (especially video refs) they could be considered to be derelict in their duty.
There cannot be any doubt that the Raiders have been on the wrong end of more than their fair share of 50-50 calls (even 60-40 calls have often gone against us). One only has to hear the reaction from the TV commentators to gauge whether we are ranting or have a legitimate reason to feel cheated.
Are we the victim of circumstances ? … in my opinion no.
Is there a mindset (some might say a campaign) that places Canberra in the “who cares” basket ?… in my opinion yes.
It has become too easy to rule against the Raiders and it will continue to be so unless Raiders management take action.
I think that Raiders management should now indicate to the NRL that if the situation does not improve next season that action will be taken in the courts. I think they have enough evidence to suggest that there is a mindset or campaign within the referring ranks that disadvantages us.
