Shoulder Charge Inconsistency

Watching the Knights v Roosters game and again another shoulder charge by a rooster ( The second rower on the knights lock) and no penalty, no on report. Let's see what the match review committee do on Monday.

The NRL need to fix this, Last week the Roosters again got away with the hit on Clunne. No Arm wrapping around and contact with the Clunne's head, Yet Rava shoulder charges Morris' hip and he gets three weeks.

I think the game is getting away from the refs the Six again is becoming a joke when they call it, or not call it as the case maybe.

It will indeed be interesting to see how the judiciary reacts .

Unfortunately however if there is any penalty from those who enforce the rules of the game , then you can bet it will be of a dollar value for a rorter .

After suffering more injuries tonight you can be assured that it’ll only warrant a fine instead of a suspension. That’s assuming there’ll be a charge in the first place.

Totally agree on both issues- Angus Crichton appears to have "endangered species" status at the NRL and throws his body around with impunity.

Re the six again, in the Anzac game against the Roosters, the worst ref in the NRL, Ashley Klein, didn't rule a six again for the first 26 minutes when both teams were constantly in one another's faces which spoiled the game as a spectacle.

It doesn't take extraordinary IQ to work out that attacking teams kicking deep into opposition territory will want to trap the opposing team in their end zone and use whatever means, (mainly illegal) to keep them there-thereby winning the "yardage battle". Yet week in, week out, I listen to brainless commentators praising the team laying siege and effectively criticising the team struggling to make metres out of said end zone when blind freddy can see it's all due, not to exceptional line speed, but players wilfully standing in front of the referee and getting a head start.

How about an instruction to refs, to not just six again but penalise teams for this and start using the Bin.

The new rules this year have been applied in an unfair manner. Teams do stand offside blatantly when a team is trying to get out of their quarter. The ref sometimes plays the six but most of the time ignores it. Coaches are counting on it and it was particularly evident with the Rorters at ANZAC. They were in our back-line at times before the ball had moved from the ruck. They were in front of the ref and most of the time he ignored it.

The interpretation of the shoulder charge though is ridiculous. Fair enough, if Ravalowa was pulled up for his, why was the same thing not done in opposite later in the game. The rule needs to state that either arms are wrapped around, or its a shoulder charge. Its being rorted by flapping arms and players saying we were trying to tackle when all and sundry can see it was a shoulder charge and the arms were there for candy, never there to tackle. As long as we see the arm flap and the ref go, ok that was a tackle then its their interpretation, not a rule. At what percentage does the arm flap then represent a tackle and when does it represent a shoulder charge?

I flew up from Tassie for the ANZAC game, as I do every ANZAC, and was hoping for a good game. The rorters were not that good. We played atrocious, no direction really after the first try disallowed and the second try awarded. Then the ref stepped in and sorted the game from there. Dufty really nowhere to be seen. Lomax did little. Norman ran sideways and unfortunately Bird has gone downhill. Given he is not a have, I will give him the game but since Hunt has been off he has gone a bit quiet. Forwards made little impact and again ran sideways.

Totally agree with odd interpretations of the off side rule and shoulder charge that is and is not - depending upon which team the refs appear to be actually refereeing . They have so much trouble with the very basic rules of the game that their mistakes - or oversights , can quickly balloon the score board out in the oppositions favor .

As the media and so many players , coaches and fans now realize , the game is played at such a frantic pace that the injury toll mounts to almost the same degree as the final score line.

All of this just to make the game more exciting , more appealing to the television audience .

I will go out on a branch here and predict the next ‘ major ‘ change that will eventually come to rugby league - within 5 years there shall be no need for teams to score tries by actually grounding the ball . All they will need to do is to merely cross the line , no grounding whatsoever , but take the ball and cross over that white line .

Remind you of another sport , American gridiron for instance ?
