Shoulder pads were a security blanket hidden out of sight in the one-man-tent jerseys players used to wear, now supposedly replaced by Trapezius muscle with lighter material to show them off . . . hard to imagine Michael Neil without them

With Mick Neil’s frame, the shoulder pads were wearing him.

I've always been curious about these little shoulder pad things Williams wore in this picture, were they in integration of Nike's jersey at the time?

I'd like to know what that thing is that protrudes from one side of Matt Gillett's ribs is. It looks like he is smuggling a water bottle in there for the game.

I assume it's an ongoing injury protection thing. Shane Webcke wore some sternum pad for the back end of his career too.

Looks like he just had padding strapped to his shoulders. Same way alot of players have padding over their biceps.

Remember being taught an old trick of cutting out a few thick pieces of cardboard and taping it to three inside of the pads over the point of your shoulder. Doesn’t sound like much but made a difference when you hit somone
